Did you have any more problems since ? I'm considering an '02 Freelander, with 31000 miles. However, a lot of the forums (esp. in Europe) dont' say anything good about it. Obviously I don't want to buy a lemon. BTW, anyone has experienced rusting on the underside of the body, esp. the rear ?

I own a freelander 2002 and am looking at the third transmission. I think these cars are ALL lemons! Beware! My heater core cracked and I replaced that in July 2006. I don't know what to do about the trans. I think Land Rover should replace it. My car has 40,000 miles on it.

I have owned an 02 freeland since new, that has just crossed the 100,000 mile mark. I haven't had any major mechanical problems, but have had many minor problems and they are all very expensive to repair (live in northeast USA). My biggest complaint is that most oil change shops don't carry the filter. I have to take it back to the dealer to have it serviced and they charge a lot more than a local mechanic. I won't buy another Land Rover.

I bought an 02 new and have owned it since. Lived in the south east and now in CA, now at 72k. I have had a lot of little problems most of which were covered under warranty until that ran out. Now more are popping up. Yesterday the tail door stopped working. I can't open the back door at all. The latch and lock have stopped responding. Not sure what to do. Seems the electric line to the tail door is out since I can't lower the window or unlock it. Any thoughts?

The 02 and 03 LR Freelanders seem to have been put together by morons using parts made by retarded cockroaches. Just read the other discussion strings - engines, transmissions, drive trains - these vehicles are a nightmare. We all paid LR a lot of money for these vehicles and most of us are paying a lot to have serious problems fixed. If you're in the US, file a complaint with the national highway traffic safety administration at http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/ . If enough people complain, they'll investigate and hopefully recall these buckets of bolts.

At 67,000 miles, I'm being told I have to replace the engine since coolant is leaking into the oil. This is the latest in a long line of problems with this vehicle. I filed a complaint today with the TSA |
