Early Look At Fiat And Chrysler's U.S. Model Roll Out

Full story: MotorAuthority

The Fiat-Chrysler partnership has been brewing since well before the economic meltdown and federal loan bonanza of late 2008, but it's still taking shape as the automakers find ways to work to their mutual benefit.

Caliber, Nitro, Avenger, Commander, Compass, Patriot, PT Cruiser and Sebring are out. The Cinquecento (Fiat 500), Alfa Romeo Milano and Giulia are in. It seems that all that Chrysler is keeping from the old lineup are the 300 and the Cherokee. If I ever return to the States I would consider gettin a Milano or a Giulia...

Thanks. Actually, Bangkok and Waldkirchen in rural Bavaria. I do consulting work in Asia and we live part-time in Europe, part in Germany and a minor part in New Orleans. Need to keep out of the country enough, lest the tax man cometh.

I think Jeep has the strongest chance of survival of all the Chrysler brands, because it is such an icon throughout the world. That will be the last thing they will pull the plug on, although they are paring down teh lineup as well.

Jeep isn't going anywhere. In fact, they are going to be exported bigtime. They are working on building for the Military also.

1.- Fiat has scrapped THE ENTIRE LINEUP of Jeep, except for the Grand Cherokee. Read the Wall Stret Journal lately? I would be careful saying that "Jeep isn't going anywhere".

2.- Yes, Fiat wants to sell more Cherokees outside the U.S., but I don't know about "exporting big time". In places where off-roading is really important like Western Australia or the jungles in SE Asia, or the deserts in Saudi, Toyota, Landrover and Mercedes have the market pretty well cornered. Toyota 4x4s are better vehicles than Jeeps.

3. That's fantastic about the military. They can't afford Humvees, so they will buy Jeeps? All we need now, is just to find some other war somewhere, so they can be blown up with the people inside them.

I was referring to the Wrangler. I have not read that it is being phased out. I could not find the article I was looking for but here are a couple. Guess we'll find out tomorrow. I agree about the WAR part.

According to this article Jeep is increasing International Sales. I sure hope they don't scrap the Wrangler. That would be a major mistake.
http://www.allpar.com/news/index.php/2009/10

Under the leadership of CEO Sergio Marchionne, the company is getting a top-to-bottom reorganization, but industry analysts say Chrysler may still need to close two more plants. A six-hour presentation scheduled for next Wednesday will detail the company’s plans to return to profitability in two years. It is expected the program will include more efficient manufacturing, better marketing and major changes to the vehicle lineup and organization. Early hints indicate Dodge cars will move to performance-oriented brand, Dodge trucks will become a brand in their own right and Jeep will targeted at increasing international sales. There are conflicting reports on the future of Chrysler itself, with some saying the brand will be the “family car” with a range of vehicles including the only minivan, while others maintain that Marchionne still wants to move the brand upscale.

The Wrangler is about the only Jeep that still has some off-raod capability. Chrysler needs to decide whether they are building SUVs for soccermoms and fat American couch potatoes to drive them to the grocery store, or if they are building a real 4x4. If it is the latter, they should keep the Wrangler.

Why can't we have both? Ya know, different strokes for different folks! lol....The younger people love those Wrangler's. I wish I still had my Cherokee Sport. Don't care for the patriot as much. Sounds like Fiat may come out with a Fiat compact Jeep. HUH?????

Sorry but this looks like a soccer-mom-mobil. Whatever remaining appeal the Cherokee had until now, was that it still looked like an off-road vehicle. Now it looks like Chrysler in their infinite wisdom is changing that. If I wanted a cross-over vehicle I would go get a Subaru Outback, Audi A6 Allrad or a Skoda Octavia. Not this.

Either build offroaders or build cars. Is the next step is putting 21" shiny ghetto wheels on it with low profile tires? Or, maybe Marchione thinks he can attract the whoring industry and sell it en masse to pimps....:)

Doctors and Lawyers love them! I just hope they keep buying them. I like the sporty type but I didn't like the rough ride my daughter's Wrangler had.

I believe your correct about the Jeep product(s). I'm alittle partial figuring I was born and raised in Jeep Country, and have grown up to respect the product and all it has done for our community. We're hearing the Liberty (Cherokee for overseas) will be going strong, along with our world known Wranglers as we attack the global market, but we'll see....
(..as for the tax man... I hear that!!! LOL!!! Have a great day!)

Daily Horoscope for January 1

Sagittarius

Happy New Year, Saggitarius! Despite the headache, your motivation level is high today, setting a trend for the rest of the year. You'll be surrounded by relatives and friends all year and will work passionately to help them, as you do. Things go smoothly today, and you're absorbed with the duties of new year. Be careful that you don't neglect your own health, though. You can't help others if you're run down.
