Chrysler Group LLC won $10 million to develop and demonstrate a cost-effective light-weight multimaterial vehicle aimed at reducing the overall weight of a vehicle by 50 percent.

Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne said recently the company hoped to win approval by the end of next month. The company has sought around $3 billion in loans.

Here come the plastic cars.They have been wanting this for a long time. No need for metal or pant shop.

Chrysler Group LLC plans to expand is Toledo Assembly Complex, investing at least $365 million and adding more than 1,100 jobs, according to a report in the Toledo Blade.

The Auburn Hills automaker would neither confirm nor deny the report, which was based on the company's application for city tax abatements.

In its application, Chrysler said it plans to spend $357 million to retool and re-equip the factory complex and another $8 million on construction by 2013.

During that time, the automaker said it expects add 1,050 new production jobs and 55 new salaried positions at the site. The hourly jobs would be filled by second-tier workers and start at $14.65 an hour.

The move is likely driven by increased global demand for the company's Jeep products. The plant currently builds the Jeep Liberty and Dodge Nitro sport utility vehicles at the site.

Chrysler told the Blade that a formal announcement is awaiting approval of state and local tax credits

From that article, the two cars that BAP is supposed to be getting are as follows(or at least that I have heard mentioned from some of BAPs upper management);

Giulietta: Alfa's compact hatchback would come to North America when it's refreshed in 2013. The Giulietta, launched in Europe in July 2010, was the first vehicle on Fiat's new Compact platform. Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and some Alfa models will use a longer, wider version of the platform, called CUSW, for Compact U.S. Wide.

Giulia: In the past 18 months, Marchionne first approved but then killed three styling proposals for the mid-sized Giulia sedan. The styling work is still far from a design freeze, thus the Giulia sedan would debut at the end of 2013 at the earliest. The wagon likely would come in 2014.

The Giulia sedan and wagon are set to be built in the United States and exported to Europe. They will replace the slow-selling 159 sedan and Sportwagon models, which Alfa discontinued at the end of May.

The two Giulias, which are based on the CUSW platform, will have transverse engines and front- or all-wheel drive.
