I am getting ready to purchase a 2008 wrangler with the v6 and auto hardtop. any ideas on what to expect on fuel mileage. i will later run larger tires but needing to create that ever important budget now. Also, any complaints on the new power plant? ive had lots of 4.0s but this in new to me. And, with the old 3 speed autos, you would top out 2nd and then run out of gear in 3rd around 70 mph. i want some highway speeds to go with it. Any thoughts???

My 2008 Wrangler X,(6-speed Manual Transmission, V6) is giving me 21 mpg on the highway, and 18 - 19 mpg "City."

Haha, my 2008 Sahara 2dr auto will give me 19mpg if I am going 55mph on a straight road with no a/c any faster or add in a/c I average around 14mpg. I guess I should have gotten the mannual.

Oh, I forgot to mention that my Wrangler is as it left the factory.-> No modifacation. The engine is lethargic if you run larger tires on it expect 10mpg and a top speed of about 75mph. The 4-speed auto is nice but lacks power. Chrysler cheaped out on the wrangler engine to keep costs down. Look at every other jeep in the line-up now. Notice they all have 3.7L engines. Well guess what to keep the wrangler the same price with all the new electronics and insulation Chrysler took the 15 year old 3.8L out of the caravan, turned it 90 degrees and called it all new for the wrangler. Look for widespread head gasket failure as these modules age. On the bright side, the tranny will never see enough power to fail.
