4x4 green light

Quick question for whomever can answer:
When I put my Jeep Wrangler 2003 in 4x4 (high or low) the green light (on dashboard ) does not come up.

I have run the self test (pressing the odometer button and turning key in ignition - but not start) and the light will come during the self testing routine, telling that light bulb is NOT burnt or needs to be replaced.

I have to manually hold the lever for a few yard, and the car is in 4x4.

Any idea why

Thanks in advance
