The first recall was supposed to take care of this problem.

A small metal shield was attached to the ball joint, which at the best, was a joke.

Chrysler is negligent for not repairing this problem at the time of the first recall.

I called the dealer, they have not recieved official notice of the recall and told me to wait for a letter. What if it breaks in the meantime???

I started getting calls the day after I bought a Jeep Liberty. Friends and family calling about the recall. My Jeep is 2 weeks old. It has been in the shop 3 times (for a different matter) and going back "whenever the part comes in". As far as the recall, the dealership refuses to even look at the part because we don't know if my VIN is on the list.
I'm really, really considering walking in and handing them the keys to this thing.

I have a 2002 Jeep Liberty Limited Edition. Yesterday I became a victim of the recall, I was driving and my front right ball joint broke. Now I'm getting the same run around from the dealer..saying my VIN numer is not on the list. I don't know what to do. It says official letters should be mailed in September. This happened before I got my notice, but it has already been reported in the news??

My 2002 Jeep Liberty was also a victim a couple of months ago... My front right ball joint broke -- luckily just after I had left the major highway and had pulled into my parking lot, but it was still pretty scary. My Jeep dealership sucked, too. (But they had a LOT of issues for me, including losing paperwork.)

I just bought a used 2004 liberty 3.7 It has 30k on it and seems to be in very good condition. I did purchase an extended warranty. Sounds like I might need it but sure hope not.

Wow! I have a 2002 Jeep Liberty and after riding all over town on Saturday (using major highways)- Sunday morning as I was leaving to take our daughter to work I put the Jeep in drive and heard this gut wrenching sound. We stopped the vehicle and got out and couldn't see anything wrong. I called roadside assistance and all they could do was tow - my partner and I had a feeling it was due to the recall. When I returned from taking her to work - I tried to move it and my tire went out.
I called Jeep this morning and the asked me was it the upper or lower ball joint - of course, I asked what is the difference - it is broken. Becky told me that my vehicle had been "repaired" from the first recall (lucky me, hunh).
You can take your vehicle to any Jeep dealership but I am not sure what will happen from that point.
Please keep in touch with me - you can email me at [email protected] - if anyone has any success and I will do the same.

Hi, I'm in Kansas City MO and the exact same thing happened to me in April 2006. The noise and everything, I called my dealership and had it towed. They did fix it at no charge but then proceeded to charge me for a new radiator! On August 20, 2006 my power steering went out while my 16 year old son was driving the car. It is again in the shop and I am waiting for the dealer to call me back as I have rented a car again! So keep in mind in case these issues come up with your car repair.

I posted earlier and have more gripes now! They still refuse to even look at my NEW Jeep 2006 as far as the recall is concerned. I had to have a new regulator installed due to a window being inoperable. Something I thought was small - the cigarette lighter wouldn't work so I couldn't install my Sirius radio - turns out the entire fuse box and wiring will have to be replaced. We learned this earlier this month and no one has called me back to tell me if the part is in. They offered me a rental until my car is 'perfect' but have no idea how long that will be. I haven't bought a new car for 30 years and do not relish the thought of driving a rental instead of my brand, new car. Today, I am sending certified letters to the President and the COO of Chrysler as well as the local dealership and the Customer Center.
I will keep you posted.

I TOW MY 2006 LIBERTY 4DOWN BEHIND MY CLASS A RV. WHEN UNHICKING AND PROCEEDING TO PULL AROUND THE COACH OR MAKE A "U" TURN IMMEDIATELY AFTER UNHITCHING THE FRONT WHEELS GRAB AND THE STEERING ACTS AS THOUGH IT LOCKS UP..... GIVING IT MORE GAS (MORE POWER) IN THE LOCKED TURN, THEIR IS A NOTICABLE FORCED RELEASE (SOMETIMES A POPPING SOUND)
THE "LOCKING" EXPERIENCE CAN BE DUPLICATED BY DRIVING A SHORT DISTANCE (ROUGFLY 50 - 100 YARDS) IN 4 WHEEL DRIVE, STOPING RETURNING TO REGULAR DRIVE AND MAKING THE SHARP TURN EITHER LEFT OR RIGHT) SAME EXPERIENCE DOES OCCUR AS WELL IN REVERSE..... LEAD MECHANIC SAYS MORE TIME ON A STRAIGHT DRIVE MUST BE GIVEN TO ALLOW GEAR TO SHIFT OUT OF 4 WHEEL DRIVE. HMMMMM..... HOW 'BOUT JEEP IS IN NEUTRAL WITH SHIFT IN PARK WHEN TOWING. I DON'T BELIEVE HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH ALLOWING TIME TO SEEK PROPER GEAR.......... ANY COMMENTS, PLEASE

Hi, im from Argentina, and i have a brand new Liberty Y 2006, which had entered the shop at least 15 times for different problems. Suspension. Gear, Electronics, this is the second Liberty ive got as i had suffered, plenty of problems with Y2005.
As you can see this is not a good car, im having a legal audinece on wednesday to demand Daimler Chrysler Argentina for all the defects of the Liberty which really make my drive unsafe.

I just got my 2002 Liberty in June, my first "new" car. In August they told me I had to have all new e-vap hoses and lines because they were dry-rotted. The jeep is a one owner with low miles, but the dealer said this was common and it will cost in the end almost $500 to fix. Now this. I know this won't cost, but I'm a little afraid to drive it because I drive back and forth to school, about 150 miles a week. Are there any other little surprizes I should be on the look-out for?

I have an 2002 Liberty Renegade and I took it in for the first recall back in July of '04 and it states on the paper work that they replaced and place a heat shield around the lower ball joints. Just a week ago when my wife was driving home from church, the driver side lower ball joint came off causing the vehicle to collapse on the front tire and also the snapping the axel in half, and popping the fender out and ruining a rim and one of the brand new tires we just put on it. We have just recieved it back and Chrysler is giving me the run around about who is paying for the rental. They didn't fix the fender (yet), they have to confirm to see if it happenend when it broke (duh). And they put a miss matching tire on the Jeep because they "weren't allowed to put a different kind of tire on" . This is the first and last Chrysler I am buying and the last American car I am buying. Someone could have died, and we didn't get the recall notice until 6 days later, and they new about it for months. That is truly neglegent.

I forgot one thing. When they were repairing the lower ball joing the upper ball joints just magically fell out, and they were trying to get me to pay for that as well. And apparently 75,000 miles is when these things should start happening to this piece of crap, because the dealership said "well the car has a lot of miles and you can't expect it to last." Well I think I sould expect the suspension, axel and lower and upper ball joints to last past 75000 miles, jerk.

My Dad just towed his '06 down to their camp spot and the car wouldn't move and the mechanic said he blew the tranny by towing it in neutral. At a cost of $5K to replace the whole tran. and had to rent a car and they (shop) are still waiting on the parts. Said maybe Tues or Wed. Don't think this should've happened to a 3month old car. Chrysler won't pay, said it was his fault. Comments please

My daughter's brand new 35 day old Jeep Liberty is broken again! At approximately 30 miles per hour when accelerating it lose revolutions per minute and shakes. Then hitting the brake and then the gas allows it to recover. One whole week in the shop, and a completely new computer control module have not fixed the problem. We are VERY frustrated with this car too. I will be without a car again so that she can get to and from school. I wish I read what your friends new about this car. I think we will be working with Lemon Laws.

Several more problems with my Jeep since they went into the electrical system to repair what I thought was a simple cigarette lighter not functioning. Apparently, the factory never installed it properly. Now my passenger airbag light indicates it is not functioning. A call to DaimlerChrysler (whom I have been working with for several weeks) resulted in being told 'she was the last stop' for me. Would not pass a message to Mr. Ridenhour to talk to me. Simply "No". A call to the General Manager at my dealership resulted in being told to get a lawyer as they would not replace my 2 month old Lemon. Lawyer says this will be a Civil Litigation rather than Lemon Law (which I have followed to a "T") as far as procedure.
Ridiculous after the amount of money I am spending and just made my second payment.

Mr. Dzurnak, have you ever bothered to read the owners manual? It clearly states that there is no synchronizer in the transfer case and that "Shifting into or out of 4L is possible with the vehicle completely stopped, however difficulty may occur due to the mating clutch teeth not being properly aligned." ( your mechanic is right) and one should NEVER "give it more gas in the locked turn". That is a recipe for disaster and you're the cook.
The manual also states that one should shift from 4H -4L and from 4L-4H rolling at 2-3 mph, not at a stop as you suggest.

I have a Jeep liberty 2002, and both back windows had to have new regulators put in within one month of each other. Has anyone else had this problem?
