Chrysler replaced my brakes with upgraded Maco parts. I am happy to report that I had the work done a couple of weeks ago, we have had snow and the temp has been below 0 and no grinding noise.

My 2006 liberty goes through a lot of brake pads, due to (According to my mechanic)the brake calipers seizing, he says he sees this very often on liberty's, does anyone else seem to have this problem? and I heard that liberty's have excessive road noise, being my first jeep I dont know what is excessive, but every single one of my passengers mentions the almost deafening sound, especially at about 60 m/h or 100 km/h. Am I alone?

Just got a 2003 Jeep Liberty (used from my father, he was the only owner) and the right rear wheel has begun making a rubbing noise. It sounds similar to what others had mentioned. It comes and goes while driving, regardless of speed.

According to our dealer the rear end grinding noise is due to poor design of the emergency brake mechanism. We have had our 03 liberty in may times for this and they finally have fessed up that it is a design problem for which there currently is no fix. There are temporary fixes (brakes, cleaning the mechanism etc) but the noise will come back. As of now Chrysler is not doing much to rectify the problem. Trying to tell us it just they way it is---good luck everyone!! We are contacting Chrysler.

I have a 2003 Liberty Freedom Edition. Currently have 94,000 miles. Recently had front end collision. Have had no problems with Liberty except ball joint recall and rear brake noise. All damage was fixed except now when I put it in 4 wheel Hi the tranfer case makes grinding noise and it wont come out of 4 wheel Hi unless you stop and back up or it finally comes out about 40mph and when it does it feels like you ran over a speed bump at 50mph (loud clunk). Dealership says its normal to back up to get out of 4 wheel Hi and told my insurance company that nothing is wrong, even though I never had to do this before and this Liberty is driven by my wife and never been off road (basic grocery getter). The problem is the insurance company says I can have the transfer case torn down, but if they think its from normal wear then I have to pay for all repairs.

I have a 2002 Liberty 2.5 diesel. My car is also making a scraping sound from the back wheels that gets louder if the handbrake is carefully lifted. The brake drums and shoes look ok but I beleive the shoes may be hardened and need repacing. Also has anyone noticed the intercooler pipe saturated with oil and when in 4x4 I can't take tight corners without the whole transmssion bringing the car to a grindin stop and will only move when 4x4 is taken off. Any comments please.

Have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee & taking it back today for the 4th time with the same grinding sound occuring when turning. Used to only occur when turning after parked, but now is occuring while taking a turn on the road. Last time they said they replaced something in the steering column (spring?) but problem & noise continues to grow worse. Jeep is at 41,000 miles (none offroad). From my googling, it appears that this is a fairly common problem with Jeep. Anyone find a root cause for this problem yet?

I have an 06 Liberty as well (mine is a manual trans) and I have had to get my e-brake adjusted so many times and the entire e-brake system replaced. AND I had to have the rear disc brakes replaced as well. The e-brake is designed thru the calipers...and they are seizing?! you should put in a complaint to www.safercar.com I did that yesterday and I will be doing it again for another 3 issues in the next couple of days. GOOD LUCK :)

Please look in your warranty book and contact the address there. Even if you Jeep is no longer under warranty.

The grinding sound in my Jeep was the brakes. After having it in the garage 3 times and having the brakes replaced I contacted the number in my warranty book. Chrysler knows this is an issue and replaced all the brake mechanisims with higher quality parts and the sound went away.

My 2004 Liberty 2.8 dsl at 30600 miles sent a valve down into compression chamber #4. Buggered up the whole engine whilst doing approx 37.5miles an hour. Luckily still under warranty and got a new motor

I have a 2002 Jeep Liberty 4x4 and it also makes noise in the rear end, usually when backing up and turning the wheel. I'm going to get checked next week.
I'm just having the same problem, they changed the bushings and the back drums. Before I could hear the noise when the car got warm, just after a stop when you get the gas back on, now I haven't heard the sound as loud as before, but it's still there when I back up and turn...

The problem you all seem to have with your Jeeps (rubbing, grinding noise when turning). Its your Transfer case or your Rear Differential. Costly jobs either way. Good luck!

I forgot to mention we took it to the dealer who did a transmission check and said it was fine. The Jeep also when first taking off seems to have a vibration in the rear too or a shudder feeling.
