I have a '95 jeep. Never had it looked at, but we found 5 broken wires in the drivers door. It fixed everything once we taped them up.

OMG!! Crap I have the same problem as many of you do. Yesterday I turned on my 04 Grand Cherokee, that I have owned for ONLY a month and the windows/power lock DO NOT WORK as well as the inside lights wont go off. I spent the whole day trying to figure out which fuse is it and now i see these posts. But the good thing is I bought a 2-year warranty which cost me $1500, so they better fix this or I'm suing.

I bought a used 04 JGC about 6 months ago and was having the same problem, intermitently. Today it just stoped working alltogether, and the car's overhead compass/temp "screen" read "driver side door open"... I immediately thought it was a short in the power/ground or whatever to the door. Your posts allowed me to fix this in about an hour!!! It looked like the previous owner already attempted to fix this issue once before. 10 min after I got it fixed and rolled the windows back up it started raining!!! THANKS SO MUCH!!!

I can't thank you enough for posting on this issue. I've been having the same problems you described for about a month. I figured it was in the harness to the drivers door and was going to leave it to a pro to fix but after reading here it seemed simple enough to do myself. Turns out it was a broken ground wire. A few minutes and a butt splice later all is well. Thanks again.

MY 2004 Grand just did this over the weekend 2/02/08. I am on my way to the dealer this afternoon. Windows do not work and lights will not turn off! Any Answers?

My Husband did find a broken orange wire under the rubber boot and fixed it. But, is there a trick to getting the boot back on? What is the deal with the 04 jeeps all doing this about the same time? They need to do a recall!

Have same problem, been pulling my hair out till it hurts. Will look for broken wire since that makes the most sense. Probably, jeep should have a recall.

Thank you sooooooooooooo much for posting about the broken wire. We had already bought a new driver door module for $220, which did nothing. Yeah the windows work now!!!!!

Great job with the broken orange and white wire in the rubber boot that connects the door to the body. I would have never found it if not for your posting. Thanks again

We had the same problem with the windows and the door locks. We opened the rubber gasket on the drivers side door and there was a black wire that had been severed. We repaired the wire and everything is now working. Thanks!

In my case it was the black wire however.

ok....rear passenger window went down today, but can't go back up. can see in the switch the green light is on, and when i press down, i can hear the motor work, but pressing up, it goes nowhere.

i've seen the thread on the broken wires, but thinking that since i'm seeing the green light in the switch, that wouldn't be my issue.

any thoughts/good online sites to show how to get the door apart? thanks!

Jim....sounds like the window regulator or track guide malfunction.....I downloaded the complete service manual recently and look at all the window service problems and there seems to be alot.I suggest doing a search engine for this problem on google and investigate...I know you'll at least need a med. phillips,#25 torx driver and a plastic putty knife to get the inner door panel off and you'll probably break a few of those plastic (YELLOW) clips during the removal...you can purchase at any Jeep dealer.Hope this helps.

Fixed my daughter's 04 Laredo yesterday. Yes, you guessed it. Black wire was split inside the boot. Stripped back wires on both ends, installed a splicing sleeve and all power windows were working again. Re-installing the boot was the hardest part, but if you pull on the two plastic pieces on each end of the wire guide, the guide pulls out. Once out, the boot can be easily re-applied and then pressed back into the door. Thanks all for these postings. Saved some money.

I love my jeep GC! Very few problems overall... but... You guys are right on-- in 105K miles we replaced both front regulators (window dropped down)... BUT it is a SEPARATE ISSUE, not related to the fuse issue. 50 amp fuse blew 2X now with no windows, locks, dome lights-- yet 2nd time dome lights stay ON with headlights and key-in bell rings when door is closed (except when vehicle is running). Thanks for the great advice-- short in rubber conduit OR door switch wiring seems to be OK... maybe good for another 100K miles!

Hey all, same prob with our '04 Grand Cherokee windows/locks/and interior lights staying on. Thanks to these posts, we saved alot of money and found the large black wire in the boot between door and frame severed, quick splice, and we're good to go again. Thanks for the info.......

Thanks everyone! I was on a trip to San Francisco and my '04 Grand Cherokee had the same problem - windows/locks and interior lights staying on. The whole driver console with the switches didn't work. Worst part was this happened with the passenger window half way down. Guess what? The black wire in the boot between the door and frame was severed. We had checked all the fuses and they were working fine. We love our Jeep and this was our first real problem. Thanks again.
