If only someone that actually knows how to remove the alarm system could simply post a few simple steps with maybe some pictures of what they are talking about. I am not interested in grounding out wires without knowing which one it is.

Well my 93 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo wouldn't start after awhile either, the mechanics had a heck of a time figuring it out but they say it's the computer... as I see on this forum I'm not the only one with this problem! I hope to get it fixed, but it's hard to find a used computer and big bucks for a new one. Good luck to everyone else in keeping their vehicles running!(I used to have an 89 Jeep Cherokee Pioneer and found it far more reliable!)

I've got a 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited and it has been having problems starting in park so i've been having to move the shifter around and after a while of trying it starts but now i can't move it in any direction to make it start. battery is fully charged and all the power things work just fine any ideas where to start?

hi every one,
i have problem with my grad cherokee 95 model, the starting and after some time suddenly the engine stop working, and it can't start after that. I changed the coil the spark plug and still the same problem, I hope some one can help.
try this! remove the windshield washer tank to gain access to the ECM. while the engine is running place your hand or a long extension on the access door of the ECM (it's under the all the wires and has two torx screws on it) and tap it sharply or if using your hand, press it firmly. If the engine stops as a result the problem is the length of the torx screws. remove them and replace them with much shorter screws. the engine should start and not stall when you repeat the test.

Oops! That comment was on the wrong question- I meant that if you are having trouble starting your jeep, put your foot on brake, put in neutral, and crank the key- for me, problem solved.

Still having the intermittent problem with my 1993 Grand Cherokee limited of starts then dies out like being choked for fuel. If I leave the veichle then come back the next morning it will usually start or...the motion of having it flatbedded (up onto the flatbed and down) seems to do something to make it start. Since this is so intermittent 3 weeks of good starts then it goes into the cranks but dies mode makes it very unreliable. I have had the computer changed, 2 fuel pumpls, distributor and wires, crank sensor, new battery, alarm and remote starter removed and none have been the answer. I now take it on short trips and leave it running while I am in a store. Luckily it is a second veichle...very frustrating.

Problems with 95 cherokee not starting. Wouldn't start after it sat for about 6 hours. had the vehicle jump started and all was fine. drove it home. started up the next morning. after the first time shutting it off it would not crank back over. actually doesn't crank at all. once again jump started it and all was fine. thought it was the battery since it was able to be jump started. bought new battery and cleaned terminal and cables to make sure had good connection. still knowing happens. engine won't turn over. all dash lights are working. checked and all fuse and relays are fine. any suggestions?*had clutch replaced about 4 weeks ago, but problem just started*

All I hear is people complain about the jeep, I bought mine over a year ago (93 Grand Cherokee), put 2 tie rods in to safety. If you are going to complain, go take a course on wiring because all of you need too. GROUND is always the problem with wiring.....it's that simple!
You're full of crap. I'm a licensed electrician and the last thing I would ever do is make a generalization by saying that "ground is always the probelm, it's that simple".
If you don't have anything constructive to add, why don't you shut your mouth?

1. The not starting until the check engine light comes on on my vehicle was corrosion on the electrical connector to the comp[uter: the computer reads fine on the diagnostics, but the coolant overflow is near: if the cap has been damaged (common), this coolant can spill into the electrical connector for the computer: this causes corrosion: pin number one on that connector is the back up power supply for the computer: it is waking up from fresh every time, so it cannot remember any trouble codes from the previous time it was on. This pin coorodes in such a way that it breaks in two: I could not rpair mine, had to buy a whole new computer $$$$$.

The starting when it's cold, but sputtering and quiting when it is hot, and not restarting until it is cold again is the coolant temperature sensor, next to the thermostat. THIS IS NOT THE SAME SENSOR THAT DRIVES THE GUAGE! IT IS THE ONE THE COMPUTER USES TO SET THE cold mixture rich on the fuel system, like the choke on an old car being stuck on. This sensor is subject to corrosion also.

Mine did not have: a bad ground, a bad crankshaft sensor, or a bad camshaft sensor (inside the distributor). It did have a bad cap and rotor in the distributor, always get ones with brass electrodes: the aluminum ones are totally unreliable!

The shaking is a bad front end stabilizer, like a shock for the steering system: almost all Jeeps have 5 shocks: one for each wheel, and one for the steering system.

If the car won't start when cold, or if it starts and then dies in 3 seconds or less, it could be the alarm system shutting the vehicle off, using the ASR (automatic shut-down relay).
The ALARM system can be disabled by the following method: FInd the purple/yellow wire behind the driver's side kick panel, by the driver's left foot. Skin the insulation back, attach a wire to it, and the take the other end of this wire to ground. This will disable the alarm system completely. Install a switch if you want to be able to trun the alarm system on and off for diagnosis or override.

Sounds like we have similiar problems
I have replaced 2 fuel pumps in 3 years and now the jeep dealer thinks I might need another one....I don't get it. It starts, I drive it somewhere and then when I come back out (bank store, etc) it crans but sounds like it is starving for fuel. If I get a ride home and come back after 3 or 4 hours ...it starts. Very frustrating to have such an unreliable vehicle. It is presently back at the jeep dealer...will keep you posted.
