I have a 2006 GC Laredo and the lights on the center console for the heat/ac controls do not work. I bought this Jeep several months ago and noticed it then. I checked all of the fuses under the hood that relates to controls; they're ok. One person that worked for a dealer told me the only way to repair it was to replace the center tower; he said that was expensive. Is there anyone that knows if I can replace a burnt out bulb?

I bought my 2006 GC Laredo in 2007. Having the same problem. Also, Windshield wiper pump doesn't work. We only have about 60,000 miles on it.

You do have to replace the control circuit board as they are soldered directly to the board....this indiates a deeper issue. My 2006 jgcl did the same thing and it seems something shorted out and burned the bulbs, now my battery has a constant draw.

This subject was covered in this blog: http://www.jeepcommander.com/forums/showthrea...

While this specifically covers the Commander, it also works for the Grand Cherokee. I repaired mine this way and they are fine. You just need to be able to operate a soldering iron.

Good Luck!

I had the same problem with my 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While under warrenty Chrysler replace the whole heater control assembly about 3 years ago. I now have a problem where I cannot get cold air while running the Air Conditioner. For the assembley now has a cost of $169.00 as quoted from a dealer. Mechanic to repair God knows but I would assume 2 hours. There seems to be an ongoing issue with the same part! You would think the dealer would fix for nother!

I also have the same problem. It really seems to be a safety issue, don't you think? Fumbling around, taking your eyes off the road to try and figure out how to adjust your heating-A/C when it's dark.I wonder if there are any National Trans & Safety reports on it?

I have had the same problems plus other issues that shouldn't have happened on my two 05 grand cherokees. After string of eight jeeps over the years, my solution is buy and try a Subaru. Can't be any worse.

There is a YouTube video available at

that seems easy enough to follow. The heat & air conditioner take a 5mm bulb. He even gives you the item number How ever the Information Center buttons take a 3mm bulb that I can't find a item number for. Some blogs/forums advise to stay away from the Radio Shack bulbs due to brightness issues. LEDs would last longer, but apparently they have to be the "wide angle emitter" type to disperse light correctly instead of just a little dot or light. Also LEDs require the installation of resistors because they operate at a lower voltage.
If anyone has information about the specific part / item numbers for these bulbs & where to get them, you can e-mail me at solitarystarr81@yahoo

My '08 did the same thing with the lights on the heater/air conditioning controls. After a free inspection through the dealer they went out. I also was told it would be $400-$500 to replace the heater control module and it would be a hard job. I also have had a lift gate issue with this vehicle. I am trying to find actual mechanics that can fix these.

Hey Chrysler, This is a recall issue. Stop buying junk from outside vendors. You still have a lot of these vehicles on the road. It's a safety issue, step up to the plate. People are loyal for buying your products - make it right.
