2006 Grand Cherokee ltd. 44K miles. Light comes on many times after driving a few miles. Crown Coachworks in Rio Rancho NM said no codes came up on OBD. Crown found evidence of frontal collision and China parts, plus Wrong windshield installed in Santa Fe NM. Clockspring at 44K mi? Repo from NM State Emp CU. Maybe repair $ recourse, with CU not disclosing safety issue? Factory Warranty?

Seems to be happening on the JGC 2005 - with less that 40,000 miles on it. I took it to a mechanic and he verified that the spring in the steering column needs to be replaced.

I have a 2002 jeep grand Cherokee Limited with 60,000 miles on it. I have all the problmes that apparently go with the jeep...Airbag light comes on and continues to flash and chime, my turn signal works only when it wants to, my check engine light likes to come on every now and again just to let me know that its still there and give no faults, my driver side has no heat but my passenger side is working like new. And I have came up with a fix for a these problems....Pay someone to steal it and total it...Im never buying another American car again
I have a 2000 Jeep GC with 147,000 miles that had ALL kinds of elecrical problems, it would even stop running at any speed. Indicator lights came on and off, computer stopped working, windows stopped working, air stopped cooling....all this unexpectedly, intermittenly, and with no warning. This lasted 3 months - could not find a fix. Get this, I took it thru an "under body" wash cycle at the car wash. Things started happening - two more wash cycles and ALL my problems went away. Every two weeks, I wash it and for 5 months - NO PROBLEMS!

Couldnt agree anymore with the previous comments, I too wory about the safety aspect incase I were to have an accident in my G.C. The differnece in mine vs. everyone else in this forum is I have an 00'(It is about to turn 160,000miles though) Mine seems to be the clockspring..when im idiling and turn the wheel hard left..it always chimes and displays the airbag light. Mine is a secondary vehicle primarily used for offroading so it dosent see a lot of mileage these days but is still an annoyance. anymore feedback as far as solutions would be great
I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.7 Liter. The airbag light goes on and off, its super annoying. My wife is pregnant and I am concerned the airbag(s) could deploy at anytime on her. From reading other posts on here it seems like its the clock spring? What the hell is a clock spring? LOL. Is this something only a dealer can fix? If so has anyone had it fixed yet? How much? Thank you

Air bag lite and chime - there is a recall for this problem for "some" vin # vehicles. Mine was not covered. After numerous attempts to repair with no change, I pulled both the air bag fuses. Lite is now on continuously, air bags are not operational but I got rid of the annoying chime that sounded each time the intermittent air bag lite illuminated. The chime responds for all other warnings as normal.
Dealer was no help and wanted $100 to run a diagnostic and estimated that a fix would be several more hundred. Most auto shops do not want to deal with airbags for fear that they will set them off during their repair.

so how do we find out what VIN numbers are under the recall?

Also - does anyone else have gas mileage issues? My 2005 JGC is only getting like 12-15 MPG on the highway. Its pathetic. I dont get it. I took it to a mechanic and they charged me $95.00 for a diagnostic test, then told me its the O2 censors. OK. So I went somewhere else to have those replaced, and still getting poor mileage. Anyone else having same issue?

and it worked .. I hope this helps everyone .. JGC are such lemons...

I have a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee and have been having the same problems with the air bag sensor. While driving the light and chime go off randomly and constantly. My theory is it's a crimped wire or something and I'm not opposed to pulling a fuse but can't identify a dedicated fuse. Any suggestions and/or repair estimate to fix it.
Pull both fuses - air bag lite will remain on but ding/dong is gone. Air bags will be disabled. Fuses are clearly marked in manual and service handbook. Two fuses ganged together on a single clip -- pull the clip outand both fuses will be removed. Or pay a lot at the Jeep dealer and mayh not fix.

I have the same airbag light problem. Took to the dealer and they told me that the driver's side airbag needs to be replaced at a cost of $883. Unbelievable. My airbags have never deployed. Is this a scam?

my 1999 grand cherokee does the same thing and it drives me crazy. i have been told it could be the seat belt sensor. haven't had that checked yet.

I do to, my 2002 airbag light stays on. Reading all these post I'm wondering if Jeep Cherokee has offered a solution for these common problem. I'm posting this in Nov 2009, also, does anyone have the answer?

I also have a 99 Grand Cherokee with the airbag light turning off and on. It started happening several years ago. I haven't had it fixed due to the cost. It has now progressed to the following: Steering wheel (tilt) has to stay all the way down in order for the signal lights and high/low beams to work. Is this due to the clockspring too? Any info would be helpful/

Same airbag light/ding ding problem on my '99 GC. The dealers have no excuse for not knowing about it--since Jeep notified them in 2001.
Found the Tech bulletin online in like 3 minutes (I'm easily distracted)
