Hi, We can use some help on this transmission problem. We bought our Jeep in January 2006, with 75 miles on it; we have put 14,000 miles on it. The transmission was having trouble shifting from 1st to 2nd gear right after we purchased it; it revs up as if it was in neutral and doesn't want to shift (which is a problem when pulling into traffic). The problem is only with the first start of the day/evening. It doesn't matter if we warm the car up or not. Our Jeep dealer is unable to identify or fix the problem. They did replace a fuel pump, to no avail. The last time we brought it into the dealer for repair, they kept it for one week and were unable to identify the problem and called it a "sensation" and returned it. Any ideas out there?

My 2005 grand cherokee also bought in January of 2006(auto-manual transmission)just shifted itself into third gear and I am unable to shift into any other gear. It will go in reverse and into park. It starts out in third gear when you put into into drive and I am unable to get it to shift into 1,2,4 or overdrive?

Our 2005 grand cherokee had tranny poblems at 30,000 mi. It was a bearing in the trans. They rebuilt it under warranty. the symptoms:
when you shift from park to drive and step on the gas there was a delay and it would bang onto gear. They said this was a problem on a lot of larados. Now at 50,000 more tranny problems. not shifting right, the engine light is on and it lights up around all of the tranny indicators on the dash PRND will all be lit up. after several trips to the dealer it is the Trans Control module
or TCM at a cost of 400.00 and of course not covered in the 70,000 mi warranty. good luck

Our 2007 grand cherokee (18,00o miles)has a delay problem when shifed from park or reverse into drive. The delay is about three seconds followed by a gerk and a bang when the trans ingages in drive. We took it to our local jeep dealed and they told us that a delay of 4 seconds is common. It was'nt there until about 15,000 miles when it started to develop.

okay so my jeep was doing the same thing, and its a pretty simple fix. all you have to do is take your jeep to the dealership and tell them you need to have the oil pan filters replaced, there are two of them. one under your car which looks like a engine oil can and then another inside your oil pan itself.. this has been a problem in all 05-06 grand cherokees and libertys. also some other brands. i think its called a tsmf. but just have the dealer look up the bulletin for the jeeps and it will be in there. it will cost a good chunk around 200-400$ hope this helps

How come this isn't covered under the warranty? I just bought a 2005 Grand Cherokee Laredo and paid for an extended warranty up to 100,000 miles.

Seems like the warranty would cover this...
out of luck jeep

My 2005 Grand Jeep Cherokee transmission just went out too and it only has 64,000 miles on it and i bought it only 6 months ago used so it has no warranty. The dealership said it needs to be rebuilt and it'll cost around $3000...

I took my 2005 Jeep GC Laredo in today after pulling out of my driveway and hearing a big "Thump", and seeing he PRND all light up. Check engine light was on. I shut down and restarted several times, finally got it to drive in D, but check engine light stayed on.

I took it to the dealership right away and they advised that I needed a new chip in the transmission.$500 + tax. NOT HAPPY
