Going down the road of Isuzu's demise

O n life support for years, Isuzu formally pulled the plug Jan. 31, when the company shipped its last vehicle to its long-dwindling network of U.S. dealers.

I love autos brands, but Isuzu's decision to pull out of the passenger car business was the correct decision. It didn't reinvest in its products (even successful ones like the Trooper), and given the fact that it discontinued all passenger cars by the mid-Nineties, the brand would have stumbled in the era of $4 a gallon gasoline with only light trucks, anyway. RIP, Isuzu- we hardly knew ya!

Had a Rodeo. Hated it. No more interior room than a car. AC wasn't strong enough in the summer, sweat just rolling off of you with the thing on full blast. Forget about anyone in the back seat. It was the Rodeo that swore me off SUVs, actually.

Oh but, gee, it must be the ECONOMY that made them quit!

Isuzu made a hell of an SUV. The Trooper is 4/5th's of a Land Cruiser at a fraction of the cost. Consumer's Reports sealed their doom in the U.S. in the '90's (Which was later disproved, but by then it was too late,..) Own a 97 Trooper, 180,000 trouble free miles,....
