Hey there guys, need some help. My NPR has a no power issue from time to time, I can drive it one day and its fine, next day it runs fine and then starts to loose power, shakes and vibrates then engine just cuts out, engine light comes on, engine still running (idling) with NO throttle response. I shut the truck off let it sit 30-45 seconds crank her over and it runs normal again for maybe 20mins to 5hrs. The more I start and shut it down plays into how well it works. I got a brand new EGR valve from a co-worker and made very little difference. Any advice? One guy I work with has a 99 1 ton Chev diesel cut a way and he had vitrually identical problems, he replaced the Pump Mounted Driver to a remote unit away from the hot engine and his truck runs fine, does the NPR have this unit? I understand it might not...Thanks in advance

No I havent, however, I am finding through talking to others that it's computer related. Now I am at a point where I cannot go over 60mph on the highway or the truck completely vibrates me to death and then cuts out. Seems like it is weather related aswell. Not fun

Got a 2000. Mostly will not perform against heavy head wind. Watch where u buy your diesel too. Stick to where it worked best. Premium fuel additives and smart driving by maintaining top speeds with no breaking. Avoid slow traffic in lanes ahead. Manual better than AT in accelleration. FINALLY. It is a puzzle no one can solve. Love the pros than the cons of my little happyface wrecker. Avoid freeway, probem solved. Goodluck

We have a 2004 Chev W4500/ Isuzu NPR. Symptoms were: hesitation and loss of power over 60 MPH, loss of power on freeway hills (couldn't hold even 55 MPH), eventually would stall at idle. After 2-3 minute shut down would run fine for a while and repeat symptoms.

Solution: metal fuel tank detriorated releasing rust (seen in fuel filter). Rubber fuel line from tank was packed solid with rust blocking fuel flow. Replaced tank and fuel line and it runs like a sports car. Can run 70 MPH+.

Service guy says these metal tanks deteriorate with age. Guess so.

I had the exact same problem on my NPR HD Isuzu, brought it to the dealer (under warranty)and here is what they found. The diesel fuel filter assembly (housing under vehicle)had to be replaced due to corrosion trapped in the bottom of the assembly which caused a fuel pressure restriction that stalled the engine. Once the engine sat for a minuite or two (engine off) the pressure from the restriction equalized itself allowing the engine to start. Prior to the repair city driving showed no problems, while hwy driving almost got us killed.

Well from what I've been finding out thus far is you might want to try changing the EGR valve.. Its the cheapest fix and you can even do it yourself if your mechanicly inclined...Canadian cost is around $300.00 not sure what they cost in the States...

I had the same issue. Mechanic changed the pump. Injectors and filter. No success. He called Isuzu. It turned out to be a small check valve in the fuel line. It was sticking. Has been running fine ever since. 5 year warranty on injection system.

2005 or newer must have an isuzu mechanic with software IDSS replace injectors due to reproramming of theflow rates to ecm. p0087 or 93 codes are low fuel pressure relate also need IDSS to correctly solve but there is a Suction control valve on the fuel pump that goes bad due to contaminated fuel. it can be replaced and this will usually fix te codes be it if the fuel is good and filter, also there is a pressure limiter valve on the fuel rail that will go bad causing the p0093 code also best solution although isuzu shops charge more but they can solve issues independent shops cant and if you replace injectors and they dont program them it wont work properly

hey guys, slightly the same problem with my 06 npr loss of power very sluggish but didn`t cut out?.anyway after dignos report, turned out MAF (Master air flow) element was shot, located between air filter drum and intake flute.was giving air intake temp of 95 degrees celius, so ecu would over or under fuel the engine. after replacing getting at least 20 bhp extra feels great and extra troque.something to try

re , 2005 npr-gmcw4500, no throttle power, engine light on. is due to FAULTY, suction control valve (SCV), which is mounted on injector pump, REPLACE THIS AND IT WILL SOLVE YOUR PROBLEM.

After draining my water separator and changing my fuel filter I am having trouble restarting the truck. I have primed the pump about 500,000 times till my hair hurts and I'm still getting air out of the bleeder nut. I seemed to have a slight air leak in my water separator draincock. Can watch the bubbles rise when I flex it. Is this a likely culprit keeping my truck from starting.

Did you have a part number and/or cost. I'm wondering if it's necessary to take my truck in to the dealer, or if it could be a simple swap.

I have 05 npr , same as above power problems. Truck seems to be starving for fuel. Slows down to 50mph or less when loaded with light amount of weight.I have changed 4 fuel filters in 4 months.Runs ok around town but on highway speeds does not go or seem to have power.
I will try the scv fix, Any other ideas?

This was my problem...Replace the injectors and problem solved.. One guy I work with had similar symptoms, he took it in and found out that a wire had frayed right by one of the computer modules. Seems that there is a variety of different things that can cause similar symptoms
