would the speed sensor cause the engine to putt and sputter and then stall while driving?

My wife has a '00 Sonata and she had this same problem it took me awhile to figure out, but its actually a very easy fix atleast for her car it was. I had to replace the engine coolant temp sensor which runs about 40 or 50 bucks for the sensor. The reason this was causing the car to stall and sputter was because it controls air / fuel mixture based on the engines temp. Once I fixed this never had the problem since.

Does anyone know where the coolant temp sensor is,
I was at the car shop today and told them i thought I needed a tune up ....they checked it and said it needed a coolant temp sensor and the whole job would cost around $500.00. I told them I would wait a while for that.

You need to change the MAF sensor, Check with your local dealer and see if it has already been done on your car, they will check the VIN and let you know as it was recalled due to this problem.

It is important not to drive the car whilst you have a problem like this as it has caused accidents and 7 people were killed in Australia due to this MAF sensor problem. Hyundai did a formal recall and would be happy to replace the MAF sensor free of charge.

It is a dealer item. Check with
your Hyundai Dealer. Hyundai will not release some of their
parts to Part Stores. They want
you to pay the big bucks for the
most common problems with these
Sonata's, relays,sensors.

Hi! I have a 2000 sonata and it cost me 108.$ from the dealership. It was very easy to replace, it's under the air intake. Had to remove the battery and the air filter and thats all.
hope this helps you
