Report: GM nears completion of Hummer sale to Chinese firm

General Motors is poised to sign a deal to sell its Hummer brand to a Chinese heavy equipment manufacturer as early as Thursday, a person briefed on the deal said.

Obama, I remember last winter you said those car companies were too "important" to let them go bankrupt. Well, you changed your mind and let them go bankrupt anyway.

Between you and Bush, a cool $100 billion in auto bailouts. Plus another $3 billion for Cash for Clunkers which pulled forward some auto sales. But auto sales collapsed in September after Clunkers ended. And your plan is to sell Hummer to the Chinese, shut down Saturn.

Wonder how many more hundred billions Obama will blast through next year! And how much more he will sell in a firesale to the Chinese!

The Chinese have all the rest of American heavy manufacturing and now they'll get Hummer too. Kiss American jobs goodbye, kiss American profits goodbye, kiss American taxes goodbye.

This is just another loss on top of the last 40 years of job losses to Japan and Korea and now China.
What's really the blame is the extremely high costs of environmental compliance laws in the US that China doesn't have to abide by. US government regulations for environmental, OSHA compliance, Social Security deductions, affirmative action costs, and high US taxes make industrial production in the US cost prohibitive. Look for even more US job losses as obama's new environmental laws kill even more US corporations and more Americans get put out of work forever.

Ok folks, I hear what your saying and agree we should have the jobs here. With that said, what would you have done different? Did any of you run out and buy a Hummer? Do any of you own a Hummer? On one hand we’re mad because the feds threw away our money rather than letting these companies go directly into bankruptcy, yet on the other hand we moan because the company sheds a money losing operation. What’s with that? One more thing, production of the Hummer will remain state side and it will be exported to China.

The REAL question is, "Who cares about Hummer, anyway?". The single most blatant symbol of excess in this country. Hummers are now a turn off. Sales have dropped to mediocre standards at best. The brand is dead in the water. If the Chinese want to to but up a dying brand & HELP General Motors in their master plan, then more power to them. It's obvious nobody here wants them anymore.

Hummer going to China is part of the plan to save GM & therefore save & create new jobs within the exsisting company. Right now, Hummer is bleeding money for GM & getting rid of it will save millions of dollars in lost revenue that otherwise would be going towards other factions within the organization.
