Being a HUMMER owner I have used my vehicle for assisting others, and yes there are people that will never take them off road. I love going to Silver Lake State Park and driving in the sand dunes. I also do take my truck off road and tow a camper with it. I have several friends that own them also and one of them puts 25% of his miles on off road becasue of his job. There are always going to be people that own vehicles that are not used to the fullest of abilities. How many people own sports cars that will go 150+ mph, why you can't go that fast legally! There are alot of vehicles on the road that have no need every day drivers have no use (911 twin turbo, Bentley continental GT, any lambo or ferrari). I see no person mention any of those vehicles. Those are nitch vehicles just like the HUMMER are low production vehicles that really have no need on streets. I drove a Cadillac STS awd last night and it gets 17 mpg in the city H3 by the window sticker gets 14 (15000 miles per year at $5 per gallon that is less then 1000 difference per year in fuel cost for a vehicle that costs $10,000 more) Where is the benefit for me to not drive what I am driving?

You're killing me!!! There's no "perhaps" about it. And, you'll be eating your extremities by the time Billy-Bob and Bobbette (Trevor and Amy) get from their townhouse to you in their hummer (after they stop at starbucks). What's the ground clearance on the biggest hummer, maybe a foot? Don't sell me that bull about going in floods (not without a water fording kit) or "several" feet of snow (the diffs will be hung up way before that depth). The most likely scenario is that they will roll the thing over long before they ever get to you.

This is too much fun!!! Most of the folks who take their SUV's/PU Trucks off-road ("gittin-er-done") really think there is a degree of skill/challenge involved when in reality they just load the beer cooler, fire up the AC, and plod along like a hippo. I would suggest dumping that junk for a decent moto-cross bike (not ATV) and gear. It's the most fun who'll ever have and you'll appreciate the level of skill involved as you advance.
Yep, there are people who need off-road vehicles as part of their job. My guess is that it's 1 out of every 5000 SUV/PU truck owners. The sad thing is the guy next door who drives a hummer as part of his pet grooming business is getting the same lucrative tax breaks as the guy who is beating the heck out of his work truck.
I'll kind of agree about the hi-power car statement, but add this:
They were designed for the road and they are driven on the road.
If you want power, speed, and handling, take a pass on any over-priced sports car, and just plunk down about $12k for any 1000cc or bigger sportbike. Best bang-for-the-buck ever.

Never could understand why one will have a Hummer and only dirve in the city. These are great offroad and should be use for that. Mine is always full of mud and my kids get to go were most cannot. As for gas milage there are many cars out there that give you worst mileage (also thing about some of those fancy coffees you drink a week, or what you wear or the resturants you eat at that cost way too much)..

I live In FLORIDA and during HURRICANE season you wish you owned a HUMMER. To get to town and home when the roads are flooded and trees are down. I live in the real world and my HUMMER is a needed tool . I own a Harley and a versa and a Tahoe .But there is nothing like the Hummer for the bad storms and flooded roads. A HUMMER is like nothing else. and I get 13-14 MPG IN A H-2 . I MIGHT JUST BE THE GUY THAT PULLS YOU AND YOUR CAR TO SAFETY SO DRIVE WHAT YOU LIKE AND GET OFF OUR BACKS.
