just today I started my 02 Odyssey and the shift light under the 'D' began flashing. There was buzzing noise from the dash that quit after a short while. The light flashed the entire time going home. Just turned 45K on odometer. Turned car off then on again and it stopped. Is this a service light indicating the tranny passed the 45K mark and is due oil change? Manual indicates 45k is the interval. Can't find anything in manual.

The flashing D is a trouble code from the electronic transmission controller. The flash pattern can be used to diagnose what the problem is. The Helm manual has all the codes, but you might as well just take it in for service. It is not related to the mileage - none of the codes are set for routine service items.

My wife's van, 2002 Odyssey at 50K, had the same problem 4 days ago. D indicator flashes, sluggish between 2nd & 3rd gears. Once pass 40 mph, everything seems ok.
Unfortunately, after 4 days, she could not live with the problem, and brought the van in for service at Honda dealer..... transmission is out!!! The odometer is at 50K, and first dealer denied to replace the transmission free of charge due to the recall. Later in the afternoon, dealer offered a rebuild transmission and she had to pay $250 for deductable?!?! So I believe everyone who has an Oddysey should have the transmission replace at no charge!! Here is the recall link: http://www.automallusa.net/2002/honda/odyssey... |

Mine's doing the same thing only it's a CRV and I already changed the transmission oil. Trying to figure it out before taking it in so I don't get taken.

I had that flashing D problem with my Civic over a year ago. The car wouldn't move but when I turned the car off and started again it worked for while. I changed the oil and every thing was going fine then it started again. I changed the oil again but it got worst. I have a feeling the mechanic didn't use HONDA Transmission oil. Will that make a difference?

I have the flashing D problem.
The dealer changed the transmission fluid 3 days ago and now I have the problem. I was hearing a whizing noise from the engine compartment infront of the driver and was having trouble starting the car prior to this happening. That's why I went to the dealer to have them look at it. They checked all fluids and recommended a transmission fliud change - now I have this problem. Transmission slipping, check engine and D light. The car has 130k miles, I had the transmission replaced under warranty around 30k and then checked during the class action suit but they said it was fine. How bad off am I? I was hoping for 160K+ miles. NH Bob Any thoughts on |

Had the flashing D just days after my inspection and oil changed.
Strange because the dealers just told me that I did not spend much money on my van 02 Odessey at the time of inspection according to my van history and rushed it out after 3 hours wait. I was called by American Honda for a servey and stated as such and now comes the flashing D - after my call. After researching some information on the internet, I think I am in big trouble and will need to somehow find a solution to fix my van - just stop moving three weeks after my inspection. What can I do - please help?. |

I bought Honda Odyssey 2003 EXL, from MA on 25th October from a Dealer, he said the car was in perfect condition and has one month warranty.
I commuted in Norwich CT locally, On Nov. 20th I went to NY, while I was reaching NY I noticed "D" blinking, I pulled over and switched off the car, started again and reached NY the "D" stopped blinking, the next day while retuning to Norwich CT the "D" blinked twice (no engine light warning), I took appintment from Honda Dealer in Groton on Nov. 23rd. I was gived Nov. 25th date for diagnostics of my car. Today Nov 25th I am told by the Honda Dealer that their computer established "4th gear/clutch problem" and the oil is burned. His estimate is beyond my reach i.e $3523+taxes. The honda dealer is flushing the oil 3 times then he will tell me further. Please help, What should I do? |
