I have a 2006 Honda Odyssey which I bought new in June 2006. The battery was replaced under warranty in March 2008. Today, I have signs indicating it is time for another replacement. This time it is not under warranty as the car is older than 3 years/36,000 miles. The technician at Honda indicated that 1.5 to 2 years is normal life expectance for Honda batteries in these cars because of the navigation, computer, dvd, electronics, etc. I think it is a crock and just another way to generate revenue more systematically.

2 years is all that the minivan batteries with power sliding doors can squeeze out. I had same experience with Chrysler Town & Country under heavy use. My '06 Odyssey with 46,000 miles just had its battery replaced as well. Seems to be the new life span.

I have a 2006 Honda Odyssey bought in July 2006. The van will not start if the radio/fan was left on after turning the car off. This happened on 3 instances when the radio or fan would be on for around 10 minutes and the van will not start requiring a jump start. The battery tests have come normal. The van has under 15000 miles. Couple other folks owning the 2006 Odyssey have reported the same problem. Own a sedan of another Japenese make and this is has never happened.

I have 2006 Odyssey (30k miles) that I purchased new in early 2006. I have just recently experienced trouble with my battery. I have all the bells & whistles. I cannot pull any juice from the battery without the engine running or it will not start. As long as I don't try to pump air in a bicycle tire with my handy air pump, it will start another day! I'm looking to get a Sear Die-Hard or something.

Price the Sears Die-Hard but I just saw an offer from my Honda dealer for a 100-month guaranteed battery for $155.00. Look into it. Did you check the altenator as well?

Today I am doing the second replacement of battery on a 2007 Honda Oddysey The first battery died before the first year at 9k miles. The second battery just died just after the 36k Warranty expired 39k miles. I called the dealer and
they said that "sorry pal, bad luck, but you are on your own since it is no longer covered under
the 36k warranty". 2 dead batteries in 2 years,
brand new car.

I believe this sounds like a recall.

We've got a 2006 Honda Oddysey and have had the battery die on us multiple times and we now always carry a jump battery in the back of the van. Each time the service indicator comes on we take it to the dealer for oil change and "multi-point inspection" but the battery "tests" ok. We've been told recently, from an independent shop, that the battery needs changing, because the Cold Cranking Amps level is too low.

Alot of very short trips? Otherwise, you need a parasitic load test to determine if something is pulling down the battery while car is parked.

It seems to me that there are too many complains on this issue? What does it take to turn into a design flaw / recall? Can't a class action lawsuit help in having Honda at least publish that the battery will most likely only last a limited amount of time? Isn't this an engineering design
flaw?

At least Honda should include a set of jumper cables as a standard, since it will happen sooner or later.

WARNING on the 100,000 mile, 10 year batteries from Honda:

My lease was for 3 years / 45,000 miles.

On the first year the battery was replaced free of charge because of car warranty. On the second failure, I came back and they claimed that since
the car was more than 36,000 standard warranty,
and since that 10 Year warranty was installed as a warranty and was NOT purchased by me, I am out of luck and I am supposed to buy a brand new batter, which is what I had to do.

Finally, Honda Finance messed up my credit. When I got the lease, they messed up in the data input process, which I ended up with a different name in my lease record. Honda Finance corrected that and apologized and agreed to contact the credit bureaus, and that never happened. Up to date, I am still chased with that second name (AKA) in my credit records, which also lowered my credit from 798 down to 740.

That stinks. You've got to have some kind of state agency in your state that you could contact about the credit thing.
Regarding the battery problem, if it were me, I'd like to find out what was actually causing the battery to go dead. Gotta be a reason.

We bought our 2006 Odyssey new. The Battery died as well. Now we cannot get the DVD to work and cannot find anyone who can give us the fix to this issue. Can anyone help?

Daily Horoscope for December 26

Sagittarius

Mercury turning retrograde in your house of finances carries a rather unseasonal message, because it's telling you to pay attention to your finances over the next few weeks. If you already know that you've overspent this month, you won't need to be told that a few economies are just around the corner. Get the facts straight and pay attention to the small print. You may also have to make some adjustments to an intimate relationship so it can move into another phase.
