Scooters, dual sports star in sales
Scooters and dual-purpose bikes were the brightest spots in last year's Motorcycle Industry Council Retail Sales Report in the United States, which reveals percentage growth or decreases among all categories of bikes in 2008. Scooter sales through December among the four reporting brands in that segment were up 41.5% compared to all of 2007. Dual-purpose bike sales jumped 22.8% last year for the six brands tracked. No other categories in the report showed an increase.

Dual Sport motorcycles are more versitile than any other bike. The road ahead will never make you turn back on a dual sport. Put a street bike on gravel and your libel to go down, even a rock between the fender and tire can cause the wheel to lock up. On the other hand my KLR stays very stable at 60 mph on fresh gravel.

I agree that dual sports are fun to ride and can go both on the street and off road.
I can see why the sales are going up.
