David Hyams is a lying, thieving fascist . There is no "extra space". His project took a four lane highway and turned it into a three lane one. Effectively the left lane is unused, and he is wrong and lying! Liar!

He admits we all paid for the lane, but then lies when he said we couldn't use it as solo drivers. We could, outside of carpool hours. Now there is traffic all day long (because a four lane road was turned into a three lane one)

These thieving Statists should all be shot in the Revolution as a lesson to aspiring fascists that stealing is wrong.

Everyone who pays taxes that are used to build roads, bought and paid for this lane, and those people should be able to use it whenever they wish. There is no excuse.

If these lying thieves stupid rationale were valid, then the State could charge us for using ANY of the lanes on 680. Think about it. What is special about the left lane? Nothing. It was there before...and it is there now. No difference.

HOV lanes have always caused more congestion and more pollution. That's a fact. They don't do squat to take cars off the road, or reduce pollution. If that were the goal, then the law would have a requirement that a qualifying passenger:

a) owns a car
b) that is in working order and legally allowed on the road
c) that is NOT being used at the time when the passenger is qualifying as a passenger in a car driven in an HOV lane
d) is a licensed driver
c) is in condition to drive, ie not sick or disabled

etc.

The law does not care about this. It was never about pollution or congestion - and now we see what it was always about, MONEY, and stealing it from the driving public.

Truly disgusting statist thievery.

When they first built the lane, I thought it was a great idea, until i drove it and realized they just took a already existing lane and turned the rest of the freeway into a three lane road. Then i was pissed, turning four lanes into three is ridiculous. All of the dumb smog rules etc etc, but we will let traffic congestion get worse and keep cars sitting with their engines running. Holy crap they also said this project cost 36 million or so, what a friggen waste of money. Theft of public funds i would call this.

You're absolutely right Jason. Its back to 1970 in terms of car carrying capacity. You should see 237. It is a parking lot. And why shouldn't it be? Its the same size road as we had 30 years ago but when there were half as many cars. The Bay Area has become nearly completely unlivable. You need to earn 100K or more just to be lower middle class these days in Silicon Valley. It goes a lot further out here in Livermore, but you may be spending 2-3 hours per day in the car (and $20), to get that income. What a rat race. No wonder people are leaving whenever they get the chance. CA is a train wreck. Transit doesn't work, the roads will destroy your car, the pigs will harass you to collect revenue whenever and wherever they can, its simple ridiculous.

You complain about cops and fireman making 100k a year, yet you just made the point you need to earn 100k or more to be LOWER MIDDLE CLASS, make up your mind. Anyways i agree this paid toll road is bullcrap, and a complete waste of my tax dollars. I am pissed.

Why can't you all be more like europe and asia and ride motorcycles and scooters. I like the vibrating.

The $100k you would earn as a poor person would last longer so you could eat organic foods.

Do you know how many little distended tummy babies with flies walking on their eyeballs Sally Struthers could feed with 100k? Even a 100k shares of enron stock could be worth something to a helpless baby with flies walking on their eyeballs.

The gas mileage is great on two wheels, and if you crash, you can meet some really hunky big peenis firefighter with a great job and pension so you can have almost constant vacations when he is forced to retire at 50 years old.

If Oprah would tell all those fat cows who watch her show to ride a bicycle, scooter, or a motorcycle, everything would be OK within a couples of months. Obama would get another term, and gas would be less than $2 per gallon.

David Hyams is the 3rd most beautiful person ever, right after baby jeebus, and ron McDonald.

If 100K/year were only all it costs us. Its more like 250K a year and up depending upon how long they collect their pensions for.

Sure, maybe they only make 100K in salary, but you have to factor in all the deferred compensation, which is likely to be quite a bit MORE than the salary. So, when you see 100K, think 250K. That's a closer figure to the actual cost. Yes, 250K is a perfectly reasonable salary - for a CxO.

The Globalists want to make life difficult. They do not want growth, they want the sardine-effect in housing and highways and want you to waste your gasoline and pollute the tightly packed housing nearby the freeways. Say goodbye to your livers with all the toxins in the air.

HOV lanes still empty while thousands of commuters straggle along wasting gas at 10-15mph in the three right lanes.

CHP dedicates at least 2 officers to enforcing this scam full time - 4 if you count on both sides of the Sunol Grade.

While I agree with your premise, "they" seem to be only working on the misery factor and not on the implementation. In order to achieve the European lifestyle (which is what you describe here) we would have to de-ruralize, enhance mass transit, and basically redefine the "American Dream" in terms that are in keeping with European Socialism not American Freedom.

Get rid of ALL carpool lanes. They're under utilized and there would be LESS congestion if they were to just open them up for all to use. Bad planning to say the least
