Only thing I could suggest is find someone with a professional type scan tool which is able to report the actual status of the O2 sensor(voltages). If the sensors are working correctly and the ECU is still not recognizing it without setting off the light, then you might be looking at a new ECU. They're not cheap, so make sure of the diagnoses.

liner,

Could you please explain what do you mean "Usually the emission drive cycle is about 35-50 miles."?

Thank you.

When there are sensors(such as O2 etc)that are in any way affected, such as replacement or disconnecting the battery, it takes a set amount of driving(drive cycle)to allow the ECU(computer)time to recognize the sensors. This drive cycle is set by the manufacturer and usually includes a few cold starts, maybe some local and highway driving etc. Usually is about 35-40 miles, but may take a bit longer. Shouldn't be hundreds of miles though.
There are OBD scanners that can monitor the status of a sensor at any given time. This way, if a particular sensor is operating normally and the ECU still says "not ready" or "incomplete", I would suspect the ECU. You can swap in a used one for diagnostic purposes before buying a new one. Or just keep the used one if it solves the problem.

I have 2004 CRV. The O2 is broken at 60K miles. I replaced with Bosch 13706 (upstream) I payed $240 and I replace myself (it very easy to replace). I have 2003 CRV. Upstream O2 is broken at 86K mile. I bought Denso at Amazon for $100. CRV is very stinky about the O2 sensors. I think it is the dumb design Jap Engineer. Also the oil filter you have to make veyr tight, otherwise your CRV will catch fires.

I have two 1163 and one 1164 codes. Bought one (denso) from Amazon for $100, and spent 5 minutes replaced and now all fixed!!!!

I just bought my son this car and driving home from dealer the check engine light came on. Turned out to be a bad O2 sensor costing $500. It has 113,000 miles and I got a good price....but hoping it is not a chronic problem.

My front o2 sensor has failed. Dealer just quoted $440 for the part, total to replace $520. Online research, with tips from this forum, produce a wide range of pricing. How do you make a decision on which one to buy? I am not mechanically inclined at all, so have to rely on repair center to replace the part.
Thanks to all for the discussion.

Are there any signs of a bad O 2 sensor??
Thanks,
The sign would be "Check Engine" or "Service Engine Soon"

HI THE BEST WAY TO REPLACE AN 02 SENSOR IS TO GO TO ROCKAUTO.COM BUY THE LEAST EXPENSIVE BRAND (IE WALKER, DENSO,ETC.), AND GO TO A GOOD CUSTOM MUFFLER SHOP, AND HAVE THEM REPLACED FOR UNDER 100 DOLLARS LABOR. I RECENTLY DID THIS ON TWO GMC TRUCKS 04, AND 05 WHICH USE 4 02 SENSORS FOR EACH TRUCK. COST FOR EACH TRUCK INCLUDING LABOR UNDER 250 DOLLARS
