my 1997 crv is stuck in park. I can use the key in the shift release to make it work. What is the problem? Also, I have a strong vibration from the steering wheel from 40mph to 65mph. Any ideas on this? Thanks.

When you step on the brake pedal, a relay should operate(you should hear a click)to allow you to shift out of park.
Vibration sounds like a tire or tires out of balance. If you feel it in the steering wheel only, it's the fronts. If you feel it in the seat, it's the rears. Why not get all 4 re-ballanced?

STUCK IN PARK:

This sounds crazy, but check your RADIO FUSE in the fuse box to see if it is blown or loose. I had a 2003 CRV. My daughter (new driver) had a minor accident because she was fumbling with the radio. I decided to pull the radio fuse for a few months so that she could give driving her 'undivided' attention. To my shock, the gear shift was stuck in park after pulling the radio fuse. I couldnt believe it. I checked the schematic from a factory manual from www.helminc.com , and to my complete disbelief, there is a transmission interlock circuit input that comes from the radio power circuit !!!-...I was stunned. I dont know what they were thinking, some kind of theft deterent thing or something? If the fuse would blow on its own, you would be stranded...-duh! I put the fuse back in place, and ** PRESTO !**, the tranny worked again.-What were the designers thinking???

Same with what happened to 2pofomo. We had a blown fuse because we changed radio unit
