My air compressor blew after 39k miles. I've heard this may be a 2004 problem. Anyone else experience the problem?

The air compressor blew on my 2002 CR-V with 61,000 miles and they say the whole AC system needs to be replaced due to metal contamination. This seems to be a known problem with CR-Vs and Honda has replace many due to their "goodwill warranty". Check out this forum: http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/WebX... @@.f0d3fbb.f0d3fb5/0

Mine blew at 58,00. Do you think they will do anything about it? They have promised free labor. Is this enough? Shouldn't they pay for everything, since is is obviously a design flaw?

I just heard from American Honda today and they are offering to pay for the parts only on my AC repair. The labor cost is $640, but that is better than the entire estimate of $2,265.

They told me they evaluate these on a case by case basis. Apparently I had too many miles on my CR-V and I haven't been a loyal enough customer to warrant them paying for the entire thing.

They obviously know this is a problem and I think they could cover the entire cost for everyone and not just those they deem to be truly loyal and are lucky enough to have their AC blow before they get 61,000 miles on their vehicle.

The same problem happened with my '03 CRV -- the compressor went and blew the whole AC system with metal fragments. It was going to be a $2200 repair but the dealer contacted Honda, which paid for the whole job. The car has 45K miles.

My girlfriend and I have 2004 CR-V and the A/C has gone out at 41K Miles. We are going to call Honda in the morning to see what is going on and if they are going to fix it. Since it is not very old at all. Our Honda here in Abilene sucks, and the people are rude. I wonder if Huggins in Dallas is any better.?.?.? I will keep you posted on what our outcome is.

Mine is a 2003 and I have had 3 compressors blow!!!! Get rid of it while you can. I traded mine in today. My first one blew at about 40000 miles (in 1 1/2 years). Then 60,000 and now at 70,000. I have had nothing but trouble.

Wow, I just had mine blow on my 2002 Honda CRV at 72000 miles. I get it serviced every time the Honda dealer says it's time and they didn't find this.

Mine was considered to be under the extended warranty. I can't belive this many AC Compressor's are blowing, causing metal fragmentation, and they haven't issued a recall.

I am in Massachusettes btw.

I just found out today that my '04 CRV compressor has locked up at 22,000 mi. The entire system will be replaced tomorrow due to metal contamination. The service rep told me that Honda has re-engineered the new compressors to be more durable. I hope this is the case.

I bought a used 04-CRV in september and the dealer (Indy Honda) did not tell me that the A/C was bad and made me sign the As-is document. When I went home I suspected that the A/C is not getting cold so I made a check from the dealer and found that the copressor had blown and metal contaminated. The dealer said he wont do anything as I have signed the as-is document. then I called up american honda and they investigated the case and the dealer told them that I knew the a/c is bad still i bought the car (which is a lie. why shd i buy a bad a.c car) american honda declined to give any kind of assistance. i called up dealer 100 times but they are not ready to take up the expenses and neither honda is. what should i do now? i have been decived by the dealer. should i file a law suit against the dealer? what do u suggest?

Has anyone had problems with the air compressor in CRV's newer than 2004?
I just bought a used 2004 CRV w/69K miles and the air compressor blew 1 month later. I purchased an extended warranty and they covered the repair only because the part number was preceeded, meaning Honda re-engineered the part.

Bob I'm on my way to the Honda Dealership in Alantic County where I purchase my vehicle. The air compressor blew and I have only 40,000 miles on my CRV.

Bob

I'm on my way to the dealership because the compressor blew at 40,000 miles on my 2004 CRV. There was a high pitch sound and then it felt like I ran over something in the road.
I hope Honda honors their faulty part and replace it free of charge.
