I actually found out that part of my problem was one of the fans is not running - so it's not keeping the compressor cool when I stop, and that's causing part of the problem with the compressor cutting on and off. Could still be something with the idle air controller, but not sure on my end!

It could be many things. You need to take it to a shop.

Where is the Air Intake Valve & the Air Control Valve & the Idle Control Valve located on a 4 wheel drive 2003 Honda CRV 2.4L i-VTEC DOHC engine?

Is there a place online that has pictures? I have a Haynes Repair Manual but it doesn't show much.

My 2002 CR-V when it is idle with the a/c on, the rpm flucuate and you can hear the a/c compressor is kicking on and off. It's no problem when driving, a/c works fine, I check refrigerant pressure is good, only when car stop or in park. Any help is appreciate.

The compressor is supposed to cycle on and off, even while you're driving. I don't think you have a problem.

My 2001 CRV has developed the same problem where the air conditiong will constantly kick off and on when the engine idle is slow, such as at a stop signal. The local Honda dealer has been unable to fix it but tried by having me throw money at it.

What I've read here makes good sense, and that is the valve or IAC thingy is trying to maintain a minimum idle speed as told by the computer, sort of like a servo system, but its become defective. I've printed out this thread and am going to show it to my mechanic this week and see if replacing it is worth trying.

Can someone tell me what the recommended minimum idle speed or range should be?

Thanks,

Not sure if this is the same problem I'm having - I took my 2000 CR-V to just my local mechanic, he diagnosed a problem, but told me it was something he was unable to fix - I thought he told me it was an air intake valve, but maybe it was this. What happens with me, is when it is idling with the a/c on, the rpm's drop way down and it's almost like the engine is about to die, and you can tell the a/c compressor is constantly kicking on and off. I haven't been able to get it fixed yet, just been having to drive it - don't seem to notice a problem when I'm just driving, a/c works too well, only when sitting still or in park. Thoughts?

Just went thru a ICV valve replacement on my '03 Pilot. Ran rough like it needed a tune-up, died idling a couple times, and it didn't down shift as smoothly(auto matic trans). My mechanic never mentioned just cleaning the valve so I paid $474.00 to replace it. Thought that was allot but some of yo have paid much more. So, is this part commonly failing in '03's?
Wonder if Honda will have a recall situation here.

I have a 2002 HONDA CRV, original owner, 130K. As we speak, my car is in the shop for similar symptoms: The car's rpm's drop off and the car stalls when I come to a stop such as in traffic, or at a light. The mechanic just called me and informed me that despite him cleaning the ICV, the problem persists. Next, he is now replacing it. I have had a series of unusual problems with this car starting back in 2005, just after the warranty expired. First the O2 sensor went bad, then the door actuators stopped working in the driver's door, next the AC suddenly died, and now the ICV. Is this normal wear and tear? Or is this a reflection of deteriorating build quality. My other Honda, a 1994, has a lot more miles, but a lot less problems...

Hi , I have a 2000 crv with a manual transmission and I was having a surging idle , it was surging between 1000-2000 rpms after it warmed up , I replaced the IAC valve with no luck and long story short the root cause was actually just a dirty air filter so before you go spend huge money try cleaning or replacing your air filter first, I hope this helps so people don't go through the headaches and money I have

Two days after having the car in for oil and filter it started stalling and surging at tick over. started to strip it down to clean out the idle air control valve and discovered oil in the air intake pipe from the air filter, when the oil had been refilled in cold conditions the oil had obviously not run down the engine fast enough and overflowed through the breather pipe into the air pipe and down into the idle air control inlet causing the problem. I decided to spray carb cleaner through the hole in the intake at regular intervals as the engine warmed up to thin and wash out the oil in the air valve. Runs perfect now just had to refit the air intake pipe, job done.

My 2113 CRV surges to 6000 rpm's when you approach an intersection or want to slow down. When you press on the brake, the pedal drops further than normal and he engine revs to 6000rpm's and you must jam the vehicle into neutral, park, or pray you don't hit what's in front of you.

Please clean the throttle ( spraying a bit carb spray) does the trick. Throttle probably dirty. Start engine and rev up for about 30 seconds. Allow engine to idle for 3 minutes. Tailpipe should begin to drop water. Hope this helps
