I got a honda civic this past year and is a low milage car. It is a automatic 1998 but there is a problem with the shifting into 4th gear on the highway and is revving at 3000-rpm would love some help?

Best thing to do is take it to a local transmission shop.

What youre saying is completely true. I know that everybody must say the same thing, but I just think that you put it in a way that everyone can understand. I also love the images you put in here. They fit so well with what youre trying to say. Im sure youll reach so many people with what youve got to say.

I have a 2003 Honda CRV and my family was coming back from VA and going back home to Cleveland OH.(2 wks before we had it service for an air flow sensor)It's very hilly around the border of Pa, MD and VA but we have never had a problem with going up and down hills. Our car started to shimmy and the car got out of gear and went to neutral. the engine light went on and that was it... We get it towed to the nearest honda service center 40 mile away from our destination, and they were closed so we had to stay over at a motel because we had our dog with us. Anyway, they found two error on the diagnostics test 9028 and 9029 which were transmission errors. Instead of staying in Hagarstown Md threw the July 4th week, because the service center said it could take a long time for everything to figure out the problem, he reset the computer on the CRV and we hoped and prayed all the way home. We take it to our Honda service "Sunny Side Honda, Middleburgh, Ohio" and they can't find anything wrong. We showed them the printout of the errors from the Hagarstown service center but that's not helping us. What we got is that the fluid in the transmission shifted and the sensor didn't know where it was and shut off... That isn't an acceptable reason for me.... I'm very disappointed that I bought a Honda. The first 3 years wasn't bad but then right after the 3 years were up, rotaries went bad $500, air flow sensor went bad, Rear differential fluid need filled(which should have been filled when they fixed the back brakes either the first or second time), and now this. I thought I bought a reliable car.... NOT.....
yes thats a correct print out if your fluid passeges are clogged up and cannot pass thru it will remitt a code from a sensor

i have a honda-crv 03 (100,00 miles) and it started to make a nasty sound everytime i would make a full turn to the right or left or making a u-turn. They just told me it may be the axil or the transmission. Of course after reading everyone's comment I wonder whether I made a good choice by buying this "reliable,excellent,4-sta rs" car when the transmission is already ruined?
Rear Differential if it's AWD, we just had this with one at the shop, changed the fluid...good as gold. If it's a FWD, check the Maint. Records and see if the transmission fluid was ever replaced...Honda's have funny trans issues.

I have this same exact problem and i changed my trans with a total different one with only 73k miles on it and it did the same exact thing the very first day of use. If you found a fix let me know! Thanks

I have a 1999 Honda CRV that seems to have a transmission problem. Occasionally while driving, it seems it won't shift above 2nd gear. Then it begins shuddering as if it's slipping out of gear. Finally, it seems to be in neutral. After stopping you can move the gear shift through all gears with no affect. It seems to stay in neutral. The problem corrects itself (temporarily) if you turn the engine off and back on.
The kicker is that my mechanic, a Honda specialist, has tried twice and cannot make the problem happen. So he doesn't know what to do.
Any suggestions?

I had the same exact problem. Check your trans fluid if it looks pinkish or like strawberry milk and not clear red then you may have a bad radiator. The trans cooler lines run through the radiator, if the radiator starts leaking coolant into your trans cooler then it will mix with your trans fluid and will cause the car to run normal till it heats up good enough, then it will seem like you start losing drive and slips in all gear then it seems like its in neutral even in reverse and after you let it cool for a minute you may be able to drive it again for a few miles till it starts slipping again. I replaced radiator and did 3 flushes till fluid was all red again and trans was good again!

We have a 1998 CR-V. Works fine for all intent's and purposes, but it wont go in reverse. Transmission work was done a few years ago but when the reverse went out the company wouldnt warranty their work. Need to get it fixed for my daughter to be able to drive to school. Is this a big $ fix or something easier??? Drives fine no problems just wont go in reverse, and I really dont want to pay $600 just to have someone look at it and tell me what is wrong.
