Perhaps all CRV owners should go out to their cars and give the hood a good, hard yank upwards. Assuming it doesn't open, operate the hood latch inside, then go out and give it another hard yank. The secondary hood latch should not allow it to open. If it doesn't work this way, go get it fixed.

Same thing happened to me, while driving my 2003 CRV on a highway, luckily during the day and without much traffic. I had opened the hood two days before for a battery jump, but the hood appeared to be securely closed and I had driven the car some distance during those two days.

The same thing just happened to me tonight. The hood on our 2003 Honda CRV flew up while I was on the freeway. My view of the road was completely obstructed. It was terrifying and it was pure luck that no one was hurt.

This just happened to our family last Thursday 3/21/2013. Our daughter opened the hood of our 2006 Honda Crv to replace wiper fluid. She shut the hood and a mile down the road the hood flew up and hit the windshield, smashing it, denting the hood, and denting the roof. We are very lucky that she nor her roommate were not seriously injured. After the car was towed to a collision center the back windshield also blew out after the driver's side door was being shut. If you have had this problem you need to call Honda to let them know about it. There are currently no recalls on it. It will never be recalled unless Honda knows about it. Please call 1-800-999-1009, as I did today, to let them know about this problem.

My daughter had a similar accident Friday, July 5, 2013. She was driving our Honda CR-V 2005. She had just entered the highway and was going around 60 mph, when the hood popped up and smashed the windshield. The night before my 23 year old son, had opened the hood to show her how to change a light bulb. He checked very carefully that he shut it firmly, when he was done. Thank God, there was almost no one on the highway and she was able to pull to the side of the highway and stop safely. Honda needs to know this is happening.

Most people I know, myself included, don't "check very carefully" that the hood is closed. They just slam it and go on.

We have a 2006 CR-V. My husband was driving the car on the highway after having his battery jumped. It did the same thing. The hood opened, hit the windshield and smashed the window and roof. My son just bought the car from us and he was at a concert last night. Again, the hood was opened to jump the battery and it flew open and smashed the windshield again. No one was hurt, thank goodness.

Perhaps it's time to get a new battery?

This just happened with my 2004 Honda CRV. The windshield smashed, hood dented, and car above the windshield dented. All together $2,500 in damage. I feel really lucky that nothing worse happened and that I didn't hurt myself or someone else.

This happened to me as well. Shattered my windshield and destroyed my hood. Scariest thing EVER !! I had just taken my car off of full insurance. The windshield was $150.00. Been driving with a smashed hood for months now. Bought a non-OM primered windshield and hood latches which together cost $150.00 and to paint to match car is going to be another $200.00 or more. Since I now see that many other had this happen, it really makes me MAD! I LOVE my HONDA..but this isn't right. We all could have been in very serious accidents !!

This just happened to me. I put oil in my 2006 CRV and closed the hood securely. I was on the highway and it popped open while I was driving at 70 mph. I got real lucky that i pulled over and nobody was behind me. Will Honda do anything about this with all these complaints?

Same here!

Doing 100 km/hr on the highway and my hood poos open smashes the windshield and sticks to the window...very scary, thankfully not nearly a s bad as it could have turned out.
I went to see a mechanic and he said that the latch is a faulty design; says it can easily pop lose if you hit a bump.

Will be contacting Honda and forwarding them this page of comments!

Best of luck to all

This just happened to me right now and I wanted to see if there were any similar occurrences. This is a serious issue and I do not know why this isn't being talked about more or regarded as a recall issue. This happened a day after I had jumped my car while I was on the freeway. I have never been so scared in my life.

Very scary indeed. I'd take the car to a body shop and have them make sure the secondary catch is working.

Hi
This happened to me today after filling water bottle. Checked hood (bonnet in UK!) as stopped to fill up with fuel shortly after and cleaned headlights and am certain hood appeared correctly down.
