Re: 2004 Monte with static. Ever think if that's the only situation where this occurs, backing out of the garage etc., he could be passing a fluorescent light on his way out of the garage?

Hi Doc, WE have a 2000 Dodge Caravan that has begun to do a weird thing. After putting the van in park and removing the key everything seems fine. But as soon as you put the key back into the ignation and try to turn the key it won't turn. Eventually after several cuss words and turning the key back and forth 15-20 times if finally turns so we can start the van. Any idea what is going on? Thanks

I bought a 2001 Dodge Caravan recently, today I went to make a left u-turn and for a few seconds the steering locked up,I was stopped at the time, then it unlocked an I drove on.Five minutes later it did it again for a few seconds and was fine again,I continued on and everything was normal. What would cause this to happen?

Are you sure the wheel actually locked, or did the power steering stop working? It could be a loose or worn power steering belt.
