for the rear hatch not opening.....i just got a 95 blazer and the hatch wouldnt open.....after i placed the fuse for the HORN it started working, as did my interior lights...hope this helps
Michael, I know it's been a year, but since I'm having trouble with my horn, interior lights AND hatch not opening, I'm hoping you can help me.
Which fuse is for the horn? I've changed them all (I think). Is it one of the large silver ones. They are the only ones I haven't changed as PepBoys didn't carry the replacement.
Thanks so much. Owner of a '96 GMC Jimmy.

I have a 2002 2 door blazer ls and the back hatch and glass won't open/ I tried the emergency release with the screw driver pushing to the left and I can hear it move but it won't release the latch. Also I tried the horn fuse and it's not a 15.. it is in the engine fuse box and my horn works so I don't know what else I can do. Any suggestions short of buying a whole new back hatch door?

READ THIS before damaging the interior panel of your Blazer's rear tailgate ... If the latch to your rear window/tailgate stops working ... read this carefully ... After reading all of the blogs and advice regarding this situation, I refused to believe that there was no way to open the hatch without damaging the interior panel. I found the secret. If you would like help, e-mail me at: [email protected] I will not charge for my assistance, I only wish to help you avoid unnecessary expense. I used to be a mechanic, yet have not worked in the industry for many years. Just used some good old common sense, and would like to pass it along. Joe 06/02/12

The secret is ... you will need a plastic pants/skirt hangar (the kind you get from a departments store, plastic with two metal spring clips that hold the clothes the hangar). Remove the metal rod from the hangar, and bend it into a "U" roughly 3" from the end. You can then insert the end into the top of the tailgate, from inside the vehicle, just to the passenger side of the latch. Now you will have to visualize where the latch is, and just below the latch, there is a plate that when pushed downward, will release the latch. If you are not successful, then e-mail me for more info, or a drawing that may help. [email protected] Joe 06/03/12

So, after years of trying to get the hatch to open and all the other electrical failures to work (horn, interior light, cigarette lighter, power mirrors) I found the problem was my fuse. It would blow as soon as I put a new one in (and they are all on the same fuse). Hubby accidentally bumped my driver side mirror breaking it off. Replaced it and my problem is now gone. The short was being caused by the mirror. The mechanic didn't know of my problems before installing my new mirror, but when I mentioned them to him, he told me what a mess the wiring had been (so old) and guessed my problems would cease. He's right so far.

i used flat wood bit to drill a 1 inch hole through plastic trim 2 inches above the carpet of tailgait. was able to put screwdriver through to open window lever. then open talegate, drill small through blue plastic actuator bar, the used 2 cable ties through the blue bar ang through lever bar.this worked fine, finished with 1 inch blind gromet in the trim hole for a factory look, cheers

I had the same problem, My 2000 Blazer wouldnt open the rear hatch. My outside button did nothing, but the dash button made the actuator pop, but the tailgate wouldnt let go of the glass. Got it open manually and discovered the right door striker was loose. Tightened that and now I can open the hatch with the dash button.

Does anyone know why the actuator would work with the dash button, but nothing at all happens with the button on the tailgate? I get no sound from the actuator or anything with the outside button.

Thanks

I have a 2000 GMC Jimmy, and the electric rear hatch would not open. I could hear the motor whine, but it would not release the window. I used mike's advice and it worked great. Thanks mikedajudge!
mikedajudge wrote:
There are several ways to open the hatch on blazers and jimmys. You can try to release by inserting a small screwdriver and pushing left using the entry hole in the rear hatch deck just below the plastic trim in the center. This works ok unless the latch is out of alignment. The quicker way to release the window lock is to pull the center of the plastic trim (where it rises) toward the inside of the car and break the plastic trim attachment. Remember first to remove the hatch handle.By pulling away from the window, you can then insert a finger between the two walls of the lock assembly and push down. The window will open immediately. Ignore the broken trim attachment as there is plenty of support for the top of the door trim piece. Unbolt the 9/32 panel screws and the two phillips head side screws and the panel will come off. Careful of the rods clipped to the panel. They come off easily as does the hatch door activator. Rather than have to buy an actuator because the blue piece of plastic broke, replacements are available at online auto supply stores. Remember to make sure that the lever of the actuator hits the window release mechanism squarly. A little bending with pliers will align these two pieces so they strike evenly.

I had this problem on a 04 blazer I figured out if that the plastic clip that pull the latch release broke you can buy a dorman replacement part # 42426
The way I got the hatch to open was I used a small metal rod with a 90 degree bend and feed it through the tail gate handle opening and kinda kept pushing around until I hit the hatch mech and the window popped open
