Actually, you don't need a speedometer on the Autobahn. Just stay on the Autobahn and you'll be fine.

A lot of us are having this problem - check http://www.topix.net/forum/autos/chevrolet-ta... for info. The repair at a dealer will be 600+........

*I have a 2004 Yukon with 50k miles, the same problem happened to me after I put chains on my car one time, now my speed odometer is all over the place pinned at 120, says I am doing 60 when I am doing 20 , it seems to correct itself sometimes but it is very frustrateding, I did get a recall notice in the mail and am going to take it to the shop tomorrow , but you have to be under 70k or 7 years other than that a solid car

My speedometer stopped working at 50K two years ago. The dealership gave me the run around and told me it would cost $1000 to fix. Now GMC issues a letter this week saying that they will repair the problem if the car is below 70,000 miles. I'm at 88,000 miles now. GMC knew exactly what they were doing. They knew it was a problem two years ago.

I'm faced with the same problem; I purchased my 2003 Yukon from the Dealership a year and a half ago with 34,ooo miles. I started having problem or notice that something was wrong with the speedometer around 45,000 miles. Sometimes it would stick or read incorrectly, asked the dealer about this and their response was that they haven't heard about a problem or recall. So finally now I'm at 80,000 miles and I receive a letter in the mail informing me of this problem, this deficiency and yes GMC knew about this for over two years or more. Can someone help me? |

Leon, call GMC Customer Assistance Center at 1-800-462-8782 and tell them your situation. They will file your complaint. Also make sure you have your VIN number when you call. They will respond back to you via email. I encourage you to stay on them. I feel your pain.

I could be wrong about this, but i am pretty sure it is not against the law to have an inoperative speedometer, as long as your odometer works.

I have just had the same thing happen to me on my 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer.

I have been arguing with GM with this same issue. The dealership that I brought it to has been disgraceful, I could go on but will save us all the heartache. Better Business Bureau is the way to go if you have a legitimate complaint. The Question I have though, has it affected anything else on your instrument panel such as service 4X4 light, or odometer, etc?

I have a 2003 XL, my speedometer did this about 2 months ago. I was in park and it was reading 60mph. Then I notice when I started it up it moved by itself. So I start it about 10 times and it was back to 0 haven't had problem since(knock on wood)

My 03 has been doing it for a few months and I just found out about the extended coverage to 70,000 miles on the interment panel. Sometime it maxes out at 120 and I can be going 30 or less. I got 76,000 though but I called gmc and they set me up an appointment tomorrow to get it checked out and sounds like they will take care of it for free still. I think they would rather just fix it than have me join the class auction speedometer suit that still going on.
If you car is doing it and your under 70,000 miles, take it in and get it fixed now. It will not get better on its own, it will fail completely. Got a ticket for speeding in mine already when it was not working. -----I could be wrong about this, but i am pretty sure it is not against the law to have an inoperative speedometer, as long as your odometer works.--- Actually it is, very much so. You must have a device that can display the speed with in 5%+/- I think saw someplace. Most cars actually read about 2% faster than you are really going just to be on the safe side of not being blamed for tickets. |

I'm having the same problem with a 2004 GMC Envoy that I purchased used. But it sounds as if GMC knows of these problems. I am taking it straight to GMC. From what I read here its a Corp issue. Good luck to all.
|

I have the exact same issue. 2004 Yukon XL and the speedometer just went out. No way should that be happening to all of us. GMC obviously knew about this issue when they sent us all the recall notice...not much help when they know about when it's going to fail and set the recall well below. I am just about due to buy another vehicle...I will definitely remember this. |
