a crank sensor going bad can cause some of these problems. usually when a crank sensor is going bad. your vehicle will start and run some times. other times it will not start at all. some times it will run for any given amount of time and will die at any time. it can act different on every start up. sometimes when a crank sensor develops a crack, it will allow oil into the sensor making it malfunction. usually the crank sensor is about 50$ at your local auto parts store. always try the cheapest fix first. bad crank sensors can cause the same symptoms on many vehicles. i have most knowledge on GM and Dodge.

if you need help - I will be glad to try. email me at [email protected]

Common problem with Jimmy and the like (wont start ,new pump no power, relays all good, don't know what it is????) Check BCM, body control modual at dealer. This is the common thread between the relay prime and no power to pump. The biggest problem in figuring this problem out is that sometimes the BCM actually works properly throwing you over the trail.

To one who have GMC Jimmy starting problem please note there is a security problem with all GM vehicles from 98 to 2009 on the GMC Jimmy it's an easy fix you don't have to pay the shop nothing.
remove the steering column cover (top and bottom) there are three fine wires that goes to a set of resistors (that little plastic thing that clips on to the ignition cylinder switch side) just cut the yellow and the orange wire going up to the switch and strip and twine them together (the wires going back to the computer) your security light will stay on but your starting problem is over.

To People with GMC Jimmy starting problem at first then start and run a little ruff at first then runs fine for the rest of the day. Your fuel pump is warning you change it or it will quit on you one day.

I have a 2001 GMC Sonoma. Just did a complete tune up and replaced the in line fuel filter and the fuel modulator. I have the same starting problem that is noted above. When cold or after the truck has set for 3 hours or so, it will crank but die immeditately. After several attempts it will start and once running, it runs great and will start fine until it cools off. There has to be a sensor problem or something but the truck is not throwing any codes. First shop gave up on trying to find the problem and I now have it in a GMC dealer shop for them to look at in the morning. I have constant 55 to 62 lbs of fuel pressure. I will advise all what is found I hope.

Well, GMC dealer advised when cold my fuel pump was only putting out 42 lbs of pressue but after it starts, it puts out a constant 55 to 60. It has to have 55 lbs of pressure to start. GMC dealer advised $1016 to replace pump with factory pump. I nearly died. Paid them for their time and getting the pump replaced elsewhere tomorrow about 1/2 that cost. I hope this solves the problem. Will know soon I reckon. I still cannot understand how a pump can maintain 55 lbs after the engine is warmed up but will only push 42 lbs when cold. I hope this is the problem cure however.

After you cut the yellow and orange wires you will now have 2 yellow ends and 2 orange ends. Do you put all 4 together or just 1 yellow and 1 orange and leave 2 others alone or what? thanks.

I have a 1994 GMC 3500 with a 454 f.i. It'll crank but not start. I just replaced the cap, rotor, coil and confirmed the module is good. Still I get no spark from the plug wire or the coil wire. I do have 12 volt at the coil. Any suggestions?
check the crankshaft position sensor.

check or replace the crankshaft position sensor.
If it's bad can cause no spark.

the shop replaced the ignition switch lock cylinder and said it was an anti theft problem. sometime grease leaks on some magnets in the pass loack and messes up the magnetic connection. sometimes you can clean the greas rather than replace. i had to replace. i hope they were right. so far so good.
Your problem sounds identical to mine, how is the new ignition solution workin out years later? I havealso taken mine to 2 local GM dealerships and they charge me $100 each to tell nothing's wrong but yet itstill doesn't run :(

this trucks emmisions box and sensors SUCK..what a POS...what is the sense of having all this crap and a diagnostics if it does tell you anything and their own mech cant tell you what wrong with it with all their training....!!!!!!
Try checking all the ground straps on the motor one might be lose that would be something that could cause a no start issue.
