I was reading this forum and it sounds very familiar. Have a 2001 GMC Jimmy too. It started off just giving us trouble to start, but a good 5-10 minutes of cranking, and it would finally turn over, then it ran great, no stalls or anything at idle. The problem is only on the initial start. If you got it to start, ran around to the mall and stores,..no trouble with the subsequent starts, just the intial. Unless you let it sit overnight again and then the next morning, the intial start would be a problem again! Now, it won't turn over at all unless you give it a shot of ether, then once again, once it's being driven around here and there, there's no problem and it runs great. What could be the problem? The mechanic said it's something really simple and stupid but he can't put his finger on it! The fuel pump was just replaced like a little over a year ago. AAA thought it was the temp sensor, that was replaced but it is still doing it? Any ideas?
WE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM!!! Our local mechanic told us it is a compression problem but when they hook us up to the machine, it spits out: "needs tune up" and "2 fuel injectors bad". The only other thing I have to add is once we hit 60mph the truck stutters a bit, you give it gas and it goes away.**CONFUSED** Please let me know if u have found a way to fix the issue. THX!!

On 1996 Blazers / Jimmy's there is a hot wire directly to the fuel pump in the driver's corner of the firewall by the hood hinge. It is red and has a covered female plug end. Put 12v to that and the pump will run if not completely shot. You can also use this to drain the tank if changing fuel pumps. There is also a pump relay in the glove box behind a cover in the left corner. Three relays there, I think the fuel pump is the middle one. When you turn on the ignition key you will feel it click. You can switch it with one of the others to check - all are the same relays. The oil pressure switch is under the driver's side of the distributor - horizontal position. You need to take out the distributor and have a special socket for it. Before you do any of the previous - change the fuel filter - under driver's side of inner frame rail.

I have a unique problem in that this 1994 Jimmy - 4.3 will only start if you give it a shot of starting fluid. It will then run perfect. What could be wrong? No trouble codes.

It started happening again. This time my dad took a look at it and told us our battery was toast. the "local mechanic" "replaced" it 4 months ago. Dad put it on a charger all nite. VIOLA! it starts right up! I now turn off the interior dome light and radio in addition to the running ext lights b4 i start it. so far no problems. my dad thinks the battery the guy sold me is not strong enough. we are looking into replacing it but am encountering a problem, the local mechanic says it cant be and wants to check out our vehicle. Ummm yeah NOT, i dont do crack mr! i will not take my vehicle back to him. the battery has a 2 yr warranty, we just want to know how to upgrade it under warranty if we can....arrrrgh!

I have a 2000 Jimmy and that thing sucks!!
3 weeks ago she wouldn't start for me. So I brought it in to a home mechannic and he fixed it for $50. But he didn't replace anything. Just took the coil pack or ignition pack out, cleaned it, put it back, and she fired right up.
But here it is now 3 weeks later and my truck won't start. DAMMIT!! Now I have to put more money down the drain.
Any idea on the coil packs or ignition packs anyone? Is that something that I can just replace easily myself?

the shop replaced the ignition switch lock cylinder and said it was an anti theft problem. sometime grease leaks on some magnets in the pass loack and messes up the magnetic connection. sometimes you can clean the greas rather than replace. i had to replace. i hope they were right. so far so good.
Hi could you please email me @ [email protected] Before you had the ignition switch replaced what problems were your jimmy giving you? Please let me know because my jimmy is not starting I thought it was passlock stoping the fuel, i changed the fuel filter and pump and it wont start. Any Idea's

Found out the problem with my 2000 GMC JIMMY that wouldn't start. It would turn over like a champ, but not fire up.

The problem was my distributor and rotor.
The teeth on the gearing was starting to wear away and had some slack. It was NOT the Ignition Coil, cuz I swapped that out, with no change. It was the distributor and rotor. I have a fuel injected vehicle and didn't even think I had a distributor, but there is if you only have an ignition coil. Otherwise you would have three coil packs. One coil pack per two cylinders.

Anyways,..my problem was the distributor and rotor.

I also have problems with my 2001 jimmy, first I thought it was my master airflow sensor, than I bought a fuel pump,I was told if you are stiil getting pressure from pump that's not it. I was wondering why there hasent been a recall yet, on jimmy's everyone is having this problem?

I had something similar. I changed the Fuel Presure sensor valve located behind the spider injectors. The valve was stuck open. its about $50.00. No problems since

It's very simple to replace, I just replaced mine yesterday. It cost me $40 for the coil and took 20 min. If you have the HEI ignition the coil is in the distributer cap, if you have the distributer with the external coil just follow the coil wire out of the distributer. On the external coil you may have to drill out the two rivets that hold it onto the bracket.

Andy,
I forgot to mention that if you have the distribureless ignition you have two coil packs and no distributor, it would be helpfull to know which coil pack was causing the problem. Unless you want to replace both of them.

My GMC Jimmy has been working fine excepept when I turn it on for the first time in the morninig, it does not start, right away. It will puff and blow and then start. When I drive it and gets to gets to 2nd gear and starts to miss., and then runs fine for the rest of the day.
What is the problem, I thought it was the gas?
But I put in Dry Gas and Gumout to correct problem
but it still happens every morning.
