2003 Envoy XL with 73,000 miles. Just told that it's going o cost $772.50 for the replacement of the right front wheel bearing. A number of posts for the Aztek that had problems with front wheel bearings. Anyone had problems with Envoy?

Yes, I have a 2003 Envoy with 45,000 miles, and I had the right front wheel bearing replaced last month. It cost $310. Not sure why the huge difference in price. HOWEVER, I just returned home from a business trip 4 hrs from home and had similar noise/problems, so it is going back to the shop today. Thankfully, I got home. We shall see if something else is at fault, or if the same trouble happened again.

Did you say $770? I hope they at least bought you lunch - did they fill your headlights too? You can buy the part on ebay for $100 or less and any cave man could R&R the job in less than an hour, 2 max. Stealerships are raping & pillaging.

Just did my right one today, simple job for modest tech. I have 90.000 miles on it. The simple fact if your planing on selling your envoy within 10,000 mile of the repair cheap parts are good but if your looking for some reliabllity your going to have to pay around $200.00+ for the part cheap is just that cheap. 2-3 hrs max for the labor not sure what the flat rate price is.

GM and Chevrolet bearings are very popular.
I think they just go out sooner than most other vehicles. They do have a lot of heavy duty suburbans running around...

Does the front hub bearing problem make a loud humming noise in the front of the car? Would the pitch get higher with increased acceleration or load? I have been researching the problem I am having with my 2003 Envoy and this seems to be a common symptom.

Rachel, That sounds like what the problem is. I have a 2003 Envoy ~125KM and I have now replaced my Front Right Wheel Bearning twice, and front left once. Each time its cost between $500-$750 (parts and labour). This time it was not only the bearning but also roaters, and boots for a cost of $2200 (eeks, I need to start riding a bike again)!

You could replace your GMC wheel bearings yourself for less than $200 each, or you could buy the part online and take it into a local shop to have it replaced.
The part costs between $130 and $160 depending on if you have 2 or 4 wheel drive @
I am guessing that's not what you are being charged.

All American cars are crap, especially Ford. These people are selling 5,000 dollar cars for 30,000 dollars. Has anyone taken a look at the inside of a Ford Mustang or an Explore lately? It is nothing but plastic. I'll stick with my German and Japanese cars. At least you get what you pay for and the car lasts longer than 50,000 miles. I am a pround american but I hate to be ripped off.

i have a 2002 envoy with 82k, i believe the rf wheel bearing is going. it makes a constant humm at any speed, its just a dull humm. would that be my problem? or would it be a different bearing since it is four wheel drive?

I don't have a GMC Envoy but a '06 GMC Sierra with less than 40k miles. I had to replace both my front wheel bearings. Dealer was going to charge me $1400, my local mechanic did it for less than $800.

I have a 2004 Envoy with 76,000 miles on it and have to replace a wheel bearing for the first time. Mechanic said it would take about 2 hrs to do. He said it's early for a 2004, but what do you do? He said they do about 1 or 2 wheel bearings a day. For the price of a car shouldn't the car companies make sure they last somewhat longer?????

try running tires with good tread wear and proper air pressure, I believe its 30 psi in the front tires and 35 in the rear. deviating from good tread suspension and air pressure will wear the wheel bearing faster than normal

Today LF wheel bearing at 67K on a 2003 for $697 at dealer, this is after a tie rod at 63K for $300. Thank god for the extended warrantee!!
BTW here is a list for the past 6 years from me as the original owner:
AC Condensor
3 Dash panels - each one was 2 service days
3 Radios - each one was 2 service days
Sway bar parts I believe links at under 30K
Ignition switch (died in middle of road)
On-Star dead
Numerous rattles from the AC ducts and rear hatch when new on this XL model.
Anti-locks still come on on dry pavement!
Engine sounds like a diesel until warm
Fuel mileage is pitiful.
The clunk in the rear is still there around corners
Though when it runs it is a nice ride on the interstate and it does have decent towing capability.
GM should be ashamed of itself for producing such a POS. My GMC dealer does a great job but they are not fortune tellers and cannot foresee when the next part will fail. Even though I have $3500 GM credit card dollars coming, next suv will be Asian.
