I don't know why Consumer Reports always rate the Envoy at the bottom of their listing.

I think you get good value for the price

We have a 2002 Envoy and have recently had fan clutch problems. It appears that this is an ongoing problem with Envoys and Trailblazers. Is anyone aware of the problem?
What was your response from GM?

I have a 2003 Envoy XL with 38K miles. Recently I had a small accident backing up in the garage. I hit the rear lift gate at an extremely low speed. As a result, there was significant damage to the lift gate, rear defogger glass, rear defroster kit, handle and wiper arm. Immediately after this incident, I tried to roll up the left passenger window which did not work. The GM dealer tells me that the window cable broke. By the way it costs over 400 dollars to fix it...that's one expensive cable. I figured if someone had the misfortune of breaking all the envoy's window cables, he/she would have to spend 5 * 400 = 2000 dollars.
Both my insurrance and the GM dealer are telling me that the window problem is not related to the incident.

My comments/questions are as follows:
1. Is it normal for a left passenger window mechanism to go bad at 38K miles?
2. Can GM garantee that the lift gate incident and the rear passenger window failin are two distinct happenings?
3. What are the odds these two events (lift gate and rear passenger window) occuring at the same exact time?
4. Has anybody experienced a rear passenger window cable breaking at around 38K miles?
5. One reson I bought the envoy was for safety. I am having second thoughts now. What would happen if I were in a real driving situation on the highway with the kids?
6. I am in a market for a new vehicle and untill this incident GM was on top of my list.

I am from the midwest I also have a 2003 envoy.I backed into my garage with the gate up damaging the rear windshiled wiper and gate about 1700.00.Shortly having this repaired my rear passenger window failed while on a trip. Unable to close window had to duct tape it up until repaired $400.00 for inside window mechanism. Anyone else have back window problems. We have hardly ever opened these windows as it is only the 2 of us in the car most of the time. 55,000 miles.

I live in Utah and have 2004 Envoy - have had lots of small problems - very poor quality. My dealer, Jerry Seiner, South Jordan, always has the same answer "we can't find the problem". Neither GMC or the dealer gives a rip - with GMC, it is "you bought it you got it" mentality. I will never purchase anyother GMC product (or GM) for that matter - no wonder they are nearly broke. Good luck with you problem.

My 2003 Envoy SLT XL has had similar problems. Was hit in the rear by a car and about month later the rear window fell down. While I do have children the windows are always locked and rarely ever used. then the tail lights failed and then the gas tank split and started leaking. It is now at the dealer with a water pump leak and a fialed Knock sensor. Yes I'm looking for another vehicle. Too bad, since I liked the way the vehicle handled and was able to haul everything I needed.

From Canada. We get snow but not as much as Buffalo. Curious about the 03 Envoy as well.

I have got a Buick Regal, and the engine was great but everything else was shody and abosulutley no support from GM. Wasn't ever going to touch them again.

But, need a vehicle that will tow up to 5000 lbs, and as good as I can get on gas. the Envoy seemed ideal. I would appreciate more comments. See a few negative on opinion but can only look at page 1.

I have a 2001 GMC crew cab with the drivers window cable recenly gone bad. I'm told the part is $100. I've had it apart and don't look forward to fixing it, but the price for this stupid problemsome product really gets me.

I was just in the shop for fan clutch problems. Dealer said it will cost $500.00 to repair. It seames to be one thing after another with repairs just after the warrenty expires. Mine is a 2002.
Does anyone know if there is an aftermarket part for this?

I have a 2002 sle 4x4. Its been nothing but a piece of sh@!. 8 a/c compressors, battery exploded, having the engine compartment to be repainted. I have a 3 ring notebook 3 inches thick with repair slips. I bought it brand new and for the first year drove a rental car more than my $35K P.O.S. The key was stuck in the ignition $2200 to fix. Now my compass is off calibration dispite following the manual and calling the dealer and it wont show me the temp until the compass is fixed and yesterday I blew the front driverside axle seal. I should see if Tom Hanks wants to do another Money Pit movie.

I have a 2002 Envoy SLT and have had just common issues (end links, load leveling compressor, etc). I love the Envoy and its pros outweigh the cons hands down! Somebody said they paid $850 for a fan clutch- sorry to hear that! you could DIY for $100. Sucker!

And $2200 to fix a key stuck in the ignition (another common issue) is just insane. Have you guys ever heard of pricing around or finding another service department thats not going to bend you over?

I have a 2003 Envoy XL that has been driven many miles (96,000+) and I have experienced all of the problems that everyone else has...about 2 years ago I was pulling my boat and the trailer hitch broke and the boat trailer neck rammed into the rear gate, severely damaging the door, shattering the back glass and causing some damage to the bumper area.$4,000 later, the Envoy looked like new (insurance paid for this, thank goodness!). It was about a month or so later, the left rear window cable malfunctioned and I had to eventually get it replaced (about $400+). Also had to have a vent door control replaced in the dash (about $300). S-belt started squealing and had to be replaced (DIY for $10). Now, the fan clutch is making a horrible noise and needs to be replaced. Shops want to charge anywhere from $200 to $500+. I'm doing it myself for $75! Also, the right rear bag that is part of the load leveling system has a tear in it, so the vehicle sits sideways. This costs about $225 to fix. This vehicle is my wife's car. I have a 2000 Silverado that has 120,000 miles and never been in the shop for anything other than an oil change and brake job!(knock on wood) Anyhow...might check the websites for Envoy recalls- some things are actually covered on certain models.
