I get a message on the display NO DATALINK ACTIVITY. also all the engine related gauges and the speedo does not work anymore. The truck is a 98 Century Class with Cat engine. I checked all connections and fuses and all seems to be OK. Anybody can help? Thanks.

make sure that the data link wires to the dash are good. in your datalink connector by your seat there is a green and yellow wires that are for the 1939 datalink. with key off there should be 60 ohms across the two. those wires also go to the back of the dash cluster and should also be 60 ohms.

hi jon you are right in some respect, depends on what dash you may have,if you have a freightliner with icu 3 data comes from j1587,and j1587 uses voltage to talk.j1708 or j1939 uses thermister to talk on data line,so in my last post I stated I had 80 omhs and I should no have had any.I found someone had a quailcom on the system in the past and they just cut the wire and when it rained the j1708 wire would have resistens and would have no data to the dash would no tack and no speedo untill the system dried out and work normal, thanks to you .you made me look harder at my problem, and found it .I hope this helps and thanks

I checked the resistance today. Across the two data wires (1587) I measure about 980 ohms. I also checked and cleaned the ground stud in the left front lower corner of the cab. All the wires are dry. Where is the data junction under the dash? If I do a diagnostic with the on board computer I get 2 active faults. Engine controller no response and brake controller no response.

I had the same problem
When i would hit a bump in the road my "NO DATALINK"
light would go on and all my gauges would drop to zero..........
I found this post and it gave me a place to start looking for the problem
I opened the panel next to the Drivers seat
I unplugged and re-plugged every connector I could find
I also "Zip-Tied" some loose wires together to keep them from bouncing around..........
My problem is gone and I can drive on these Crappy Michigan roads without losing my gauges......
On a side note.......
This "No Datalink" must also control the "AC"
becauseit made my "AC" stop getting cold

It also says no data link and my gauges works fine then they go down from 65 mph to zero then back up again.
And i bought truck from Don Baskin truck sales in Memphis Tn.....do not ever buy anything from them! Hughe mistake, i guess learn my lesson.

sounds like your wires at starter are backwards. the ground for ac compressor is grounded at starter

one controller is under dish and one controller is on the driver side door we're the computer plugs in too.there take off the cover and you will see the wires one is orange and the next one is green.join the all orange together.and the green the.same then you will have no codes on your dash any more. You don't need the icu is the shorting out

i have a 1997 freightliner century, my data link had a 1 fault code on it I took it to the shop and the guy came out to put his code reader on it, but there was no power to the hook up. then he told me to replace the control unit with the temp. fuel , and reset buttons. I did but now I don't have any thing showing up on the screen where it would say freightliner, or fault code. and plus my rpm, volt. temp gauges are not working can somebody please help. thanks

I have a 2007 Argosy (Australia). The gauges in the dash cluster are illuminated constantly. Whether headlights are on or off. Ignition switch on or off. The switch and panel lights work perfectly. Any assistance would be great.

Yeah same problem here with an 06 Century, Disconnected just about everything to isolate it to the cab but cannot find the source of the volatage.

Hi have a 07 sterling with Mercedes engine when the key is first turned on the display says no data and all engine related gauges don't work I also have a active abs light saying retarder control relay I'm reading that the retarder control relay is only for automatic transmission mine is manual with this code active I have no cruise. Could the 2 problems be related? Also when the gauges are flashing and no data light on the truck will not start but if u wait a few minutes it seems to figure itself out all the lights go out and it will start some times bumping the starter over clears it faster as well. Any ideas?n
