I have a freightliner FLD120 with a Cummins M11. About 2 weeks ago the engine started skipping, smoking, and shut off on me. I pulled over and found that I had a very dirty fuel filter. Satisfied that this was the problem I replaced it. It wouldn't start. It would run on starting fluid but wouldn't idle on its own. I had it towed home. The next day it started but wouldn't idle. After I drained the fuel, changed the filter,and cleaned the screen on the fuel pump. We sprayed it an got it running but it will not idle. It will run all day long at any rpm above idle. As the rpms get close to idle the check engine light comes on, the motor will run ruff, smoke, and die if you don't pat the fuel to get the rpms up? The fault code on the ECM said it was due to a bad engine positiion sensor. I had it changed it. That wasn't the problem. Please help. You can e-mail me at justemailmee@yahoo.com . Thank You.

Hello! may be it is too late to give you the unswer, anyway I will try.

No idle syndrome - air in system, low fuel pressure ore bad injectors.

Cummins M1 is equiped with dual coil EPS (primary and secondary) and wont running wheb both the coils are bad.

Okay, what to start with? Check fuel pressure and if fuel pressure is OK (not less then 8 bar), you need Cummins Insite software to check for calculated fuel rate.

IMO. You have bad fuel sending pump ore air in fuel system....

i have the same truck m11 cummins it wont get over 1300 rpm. any sugestions!

I have a m11 in my water truck & the stop engine light will come on once in a while but all i had to do is rap the engine up a couple of times & it would go out tell yesterday now when the light comes on i have no throttle but i can still idel the engine up with my cruise to 800 rpm then after 5 to 10 minutes the light shuts off & away u go & it only comes on when u r below 1200 rpm

Have the ECM tested.
AS IN; Remove and have it tested.
If you have an older unit and have not replaced all the sensors and injector harness, now would be a good time..
Stay away from power washing the engine. NONE of the sensors were designed to be blasted with anything. Clean the connectors and use dialectic when you
plug them back together.(DeOxit &Pro Gold)
Replace the unions if they show signs of being loose and or are failing to make a good clean contact.
Pay special attention to the female plug(s). If they are loose and the pins are not tight, replace them.
