I am a frustrated owner of the new so called fuel saving cascadia. I am averaging 3.5 mpg, truck has been towed 3 times, in the shop 9 times. All because of 'Regen problems' and EGR problems. This is in my opinion the biggest false advertisement Freightliner has ever produced. They obviously did not do enough R/D on this product, and they launched to the consumer so the consumer can pay for their R/D. The truck is the worst truck (mechanically) that I have ever owned.
I have been dealing with Ray Strother, Midwest Freightliner Rep. and he is the biggest liar on the planet. He has said that Freightliner would help with my downtime, and also for the disgusting fuel mileage we are getting. He offered $500.00!!?? Then they send us a Detroit Engineer who is supposed to be a fuel specialist, granted he knows what he is doing, but I doubt he knows how to fix the problems. This truck regens constantly, and never stops until you stop the truck. I was originally told by the selling dealer Omaha Truck Center, Omaha,Ne. that the truck should regen once every 2 weeks. BULL!! Freightliner comes back after I have all the problems and says that it regens every 200-300 miles!!!!!! The problem with this is that when the regen kicks in your MPG drops dramatically, and does not recover for several hours.
So, basically i am telling all who'll listen especially those in charge of buying trucks for big companies....If you want to keep your job do not buy these trucks, because when your companies experience the downtime, and lost fuel economy you will be the scapegoat. Freightliner is doing nothing to help, and has no answers as to how to fix this problem. They keep promising that they are working on it, but I am fed up with thier lies and deciet. I am filing a lawsuit against Freightliner and looking to go Class Action with it. If you are a owner experiencing problems with the Cascadia I want to hear from you. [email protected]

What engine you have in it? srs60 or mbe4000? When going down the highway the truck should be running hot enough that it shouldn't have to do a regen. The ones around here are getting between 5 and 7 mpg. have been finding fuel valves with some blue material plugging them causing them to fail regens. There is 3 types of regens. The most common one is when you are moving and exhaust is hot enough to perform it. It's bad to idle the engine because it produces more soot and will cause more frequent regens. and when at idle exhaust doesn't get hot enough so fuel is put in the exhaust to get it hotter. and if you ever need a jump start there should be a battery disconnect switch you will want to shut off or you can fry lights and/or computers

Don't be deceived about the window sticker. Some of the cabs Mexico uses are built in Cleveland and bare the Made in Cleveland sticker. The actual truck and wiring is done in Mexico. Always look at the plate inside the door, that tells you where the truck was built.

My Cascadia came from North Carolina. What an absolute pile of junk this truck is.You shouldn't be so proud that you built this piece of crap.

I have a 2009 with a 515 dd15 and love both the truck and motor. I work in the oil patch with it and after 11 months have had only a few minor problems. It is a very well built truck not a single rattle yet.

I bought my very first truck in July 2008 after years of being a company driver. I searched long and hard for the best truck out there. I chose the Cascadia for its good aerodynamics, and the good press it initially got. I also chose the new DD15 engine. What a mistake. My truck broke down in my first run, not even 2,000 clicks on it. In my first 3 months of ownership, the truck spent 5 weeks in various shops. Here's the extensive list of what was repaired/replaced; MCM, SAM cabin, dozen of re-flashes, leaky windshields and side windows, cold boost pipe, delta P sensor, jake brake harness/solenoid, DPF unit, MFS switch, power steering pump. The also exhaust constantly cracks in the 90 degree bend. The dashboard started to rattle very badly and I had to re-torque every bolt using Loctite. My MPGs also have been very average, ranging from near 7s when bone empty to low 6s when fairly loaded. I spent a couple of months in the mid to high 5s, but after changing the power steering pump, it got back to the usual but still varies wildly from week to week. Regen seems to happen VERY often (if not always on) and really gets your MPG down. The DPF was changed, including the sensor, and it didn't make any difference. To this day, still over half of the Freightliner shops don't have trained technicians to work on the DD15, so they can't even touch it and their engineers are slow and incompetent. I lost A LOT of time thus money over this (10,000$~15,000$), I almost went bankrupt since it was a new business, and Freightliner has been nothing but inconsiderate and incompetent. They rushed this truck into production, and we unfortunatly are doing their R&D for them at our own cost! I too was promised FULL compensation for my troubles but so far, I haven't seen a cent. I am currently in a lawsuit against Freightliner, but I've heard similar stories and the word is everyone has lost against them... Some Owner/Operators DID went bankrupt because of this truck. Me, I'm not making any profit and I might be another on that list. If you purchased a Cascadia and you're not having problems with it, consider yourself VERY lucky and go buy yourself a lottery ticket! DO NOT BUY A FREIGHTLINER!

I drive a 2010 Cascadia Midroof XT w/DD15. Has a terrible squealing like a belt. FL says nothing they can do about it. Problem is, it's a Mexico FL and FL WON'T fix it!! BTW, my company has 2500 of these POS's! Mexi-liners may be cheaper, but we got what we paid for.

Freightliner said that if there is a problem on the line at mexico plant the line was stopped until the problem was resolved. That has to be a new policy, if you stopped the line at clevland someone better be under the truck. I seen the line break down and management told employees to un pin trucks do your job and hand push to the next station in the same time frame as normal production. Management was not interested in quaility but numbers for their bonus. Quaility happened by employees that were trying to save their jobs.

The new Cascadia is a real lemon and most people have major problems with it. Mexi-liner or not, it's screwing up many owner/operators's lives and Freightliner should be ashamed. One of them has taken the time to put up a website about all the problems he's had with his truck. Kudos to him for the effort, I just wish I could do the same. You can check it out at: www.freightlinerproblems.com

I also own one of these so called great trucks. The fuel economy is not bad but in 12 months the truck has been down 29 times and a total of 45 days. We haul fluid with this truck and it is constantly rattling apart, plastic cracking and braking and the whole truck constantly shakes between 50 and 65 mph. This truck has been nothing but a headache and a loss of money. Plus being colder up here in the winter we have to have the motor belly tarped and the rad has to be completley covered so the motor will regen. We have been through 5 EGR valves wiring problem and a new fuel line off the fuel filter. We are now moving on to a different dealer since Daimler Trucks is not willing to take any responsibility.

Im currently going thru CRE's training program and my trainers truck broke down last night. Its a 2010 w/ a DD15. The turbo blew, egr valve, when the turbo goes in these things it lets coolant into the oil and vice versa. Pretty much the entire aftertreatment system is shot. Estimated at 1-2 weeks downtime. Ya, Im gonna go with a Peterbuilt or an International.

I have drivin FL for 8 years now and when my company told me to pick up my new cascraphole I was more than pleased untill I hit 1500mi the check Eng light came on with regen and all the lights an buzzers just go crazy had it for just under a year and seen every FL dealer coast to coast it seems a total of 13 egr 3 windshields for leaks...still leaking. DPF unit fuel lines and many small items including all tires didn't last 5000mi. This truck was built in SC USA. This year long experince has turned me off from ever even sitting in another. FL I switched to a International Lone Star and has to be the best truck I've ever seen and drivin

Bought a 2010 Cascadia day cab tractor with a DD15 @ 475hp with a ALLISON trans and super singles. Been on the road 5 days weekly since Oct 2009 and had one problem, leaky oil plug drain gasket. The truck is tight, smooth and quiet. Getting 6.5-6.9 mpg hauling full box trailers in the Northeast. This truck has been everything Freightliner said it would be. Assembled in NC. Will be for sale @250,000 miles.

I guess I been lucky so far compared to everyone elses problems. I made the biggest mistake and leased with CRE and two days ago I think my turbo went out, I lost all power and couldn't go anymore than 25 mph up the smallest hill with only 22,000 in the back, had to have someone pick up my trailor and bob tail to a dealer. My trucks a 2010 with only 93,000 miles whatevers wrong should be covered under warrenty right? It better! I have the FTL level I warrenty. If not, how much on average will this cost and how much down time? I'm still sitting in line in el paso for two days now, this must be the only damn dealer within a few hundred mile radius.
