You know, you guys are kind of scaring the sh** out of me right now. I was trying to change the plugs on my truck last night, and after the fact that the current plugs are not a 5/8 plug, I put the one coilpack back in until I can get the right socket, started up my truck to make sure it was ok.
Now, I've heard a slight 'ticking' sound for a little while, but always figured it was normal since there's 3 valves per cyln, but it's only comming from the passanger side.
This is a 2004 FX4 Supercab. Does anyone know if there's any year that's worse than any other?
Got to watch the plugs they also break if they are the 2 piece plug then you are lokin at a $200000 repair

I have a 2005 ford expadition. I was told I need to replace the plugs. I purchased new ones and after the plugs broke off in the hole I found out that the triton V8 3cyl. have a design flaw were the bottom Of the plug snap off and are loged in the hole. You can purchase a special Extraction kit to remove it but you can end up with porcelin in your cylinder. If you cant get it out you have to have the heads removed to extract the spark plug. Ford charges an outragus rate to change the plugs because they know they break off and even more if they break them off. A simple spark plug change can cost $2000.00 because of this flaw. My understanding is ford would rather loose a customer than correct the problem.

Ford will do nothing!!!!! If you have the ability to get your money back??? DO IT WITHOUT HESITATION!!! This truck will only cause you heartache and money, lots of money. Sorry.
the blown spark plugs are not the only problem. If you try to change the plugs they tend to snap off. Then you are looking at a bill in the $2000.00 range.

Years and still nothing from ford , what a joke. Toyota and Honda from now on Ford should be ashamed of themselves for the lack of customer service

I own a 2002 Ford Escape with 114,000 miles. Big mistake. Besides all the recalls I. Had spark plus #4 blow August 1st 2012. Its only cost me 230.00 to have it rethreaded BUT as I type this my husband is trying to get us home because 2 months later....spark plus #1 blew out! This is obviously an issue and is not normal and Ford really needs to do something about it. I just can't even afford to rethread this time.:(

I feel for you . I have four kids still at home and when a car breaks it sucks ! I also work on them for a living , so it don't suck as much ! The plugs in the 4.6 and older 5.4 along with the v 10 only blow out because of improper torque . If the engine has 100k on it , not a Ford fault. I have fixed many of these after a "tune up" The plugs are always too loose or have anti seize on them . NO MANUFACTURER recommends anti seize compound ! It will cause problems !

I was driving in to work this morning and had just merged onto the interstate when my 2005 Escape started running rough and making a terrible noise. I pulled over onto the shoulder and popped the hood. To my surprise, there was a sparkplug laying on the manifold! I cannot believe this.....especially after reading so many posts here referencing the same. Ford has some serious problems!

I have a 2000 Exipedition with 230k been a good truck execpt that around 215k started to blow spark plugs. Lucky I am able to fix the sparkplugs myself. Just did two today with advice from autozone guys they instucted me come to this wed site. If you pay more than $500 by your local mechianic you are being ripped off. I found out that there may have been a problem with the head castings (second hand info)causing the plugs to blow out. Also it may be that there is to much back pressure in the exhaust system. If there is a class action lawsuit I want to be a part of it.
