I have a Ford triton V10 in my 2000 Pace Arrow RV. It just turned 70,000 miles. I was considering changing the plugs myself this week. After reading all the above concerns...I'm wondering if I should be concerned. Does anyone know the risks of this, the torque and gap of these 10 plugs...? They are way down in the top of the engine and I don't even know what size socket they take. They don't give us a drive line book on these road tanks. My main concern is a do it yourself tune up...if there is such a thing.

Brother - just leave them plugs in unless you have reason to take them out. They should hold up until 100K miles (we tested the Triton V10 on the dyno to well over 100K without plug issues). If you do swap them out please put some anti-sieze on the threads to prevent galling.

Ford is crapping all over the American consumer with poorly designed powertrains. This type of failure should not happen if the fastener engineer had designed the joint correctly. Aluminum heads have been around for years along with the standard sparkplug, no reason these should be backing out under any type of load or thermal expansion/contraction condition.

PLEASE HELP! I have a 2001 ford Expedition with the same exact problem as everyone else. In Oct 2006 I was slowing to stop when BANG! After towing it to a shop I found out my plug also had shot out and damaged the aluminum head. I paid over $3000. to fix it and in March or April 07 (not even 6 months later), the engine has failed. The bottom half has went now. I was warned this was going to be next but never imagined it would. They want $5200. to put in a remanufactured motor that I cant afford. I am a young single mother of 2 kids and cant get to and from work. Not to mention I still owe over $15000. on the truck and am paying $420. on something I have only driven about 5 months out of the year. If there is any class action suite I can get in on , please let me know how and where to find it. This is rediculous! I am in MAJOR financial stress all because of the viscious cycle Ford has caused. BTW, I have replace coil packs several times, does this have any relation to the problems at hand?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I hate to say it, but you might want to look into insurance fraud for this hopeless vehicle. You are totally upside down on this truck and it will never be worth what you owe on it. Have a friend with a flatbed steal it and drop it off in a ghetto somewhere and hopefully they'll strip it down and you can collect on the market price.

Yeah you probably work for FORD. Found On the Road Dead. These problems dont happen with Honda, Toyota,
and Nissan. The reason: American cars suck; big labor unions, too many levels of management and #1 reason..... Apathy toward their customers, which you typify.

I just ripped the engin down sent it to a preformance shop in canada and they overhauled the engine and added more material on the head for more thread action when putting the spark plugs back in this work is guarenteed to last for 30 years, or i get half my money back. so far so good, now i got a turbo supercharged supercrew!!! race me now!!

I blew a plug in my F150 over a year ago. I purchased the Time-sert kit and so far...no problems. I spent a total of about $450 with the kit and labor.

Had to have Transmission replaced in 2001 Ford Excursion once and then had to have transmission repaired again after being replaced. Vehicle had less than 85,000 miles and the warranty on transmission was only 3 yrs or get this 36,000 miles and it was replaced by FORD. Amongst all the recalls it is hard trying to find an adequate mechanic outside of a FORD Dealership to do what should be a simple Tune up. What the Heck?

My 2000 Ford Excursion V10 blew the same plug for the second time. It was on the passenger side second from the rear. They were the original Motorcraft plugs from the factory. The first time it blew I was able to re insert a new plug and torque it down however it blew again 3 months later. Now the threads are damaged from the plug beating around and 2 coil packs destroyed. Both times it blew the coil pack was beating the crap out of my fuel rail.
The sad thing is I had taken it to a local Ford dealership here in Chesterfield Michigan because I heard an engine knock on the same side the plug blew the year before and they claim they found nothing causing the noise. Now I know after reading all the posts online that the engine knock was the plug vibrating loose. Could Ford have known this was an issue and ignored it at the time I took it in? I think so since this has been happening to thousands of people for years now.
Imagine what it is going to cost all of us every time this happens over and over again. It could potentially cost us more than what we paid for the vehicle. It will for sure drive down the resale value at the least and eventually it would not be cost effective to replace the heads as it will cost more that what the vehicle is worth. Ford needs to step up to the plate and recall these vehicles or at least have a TSB to replace the heads with an improved model as they blow. I would even be willing to pay Ford the $80 an hour as long as they replaced the heads with ones that will never blow the plugs again.

Jack, it's a good thought, but the NTSB will not recognize the flaw or design defect, for a possible recall, until a fatility is directly attributed to this problem. Know your options.
