And horsepower is so over-rated. Especially in imports. You see, its just like those Infiniti G35's, nice looking cars, a whopping 300 horsepower V6, but wheres the torque? It only has 260 Ft Lbs of torque. I would race him with my Firebird anyday. I have only 275 Hp, but 325 Ft Lbs of torque. You see, HP = Torque * RPM / 5252. Very basic knowledge, not rocket science. These imports have no torque, so they slap on 6 speed trannys with high rev limits which makes up for the torque to get a good number for HP. Its funny 440's back in the day had 3 or 4 spd standard, and would smoke your little ricers. Also, from my knowledge, the Corvette is the ONLY car able to go 0-175 mph in 5th gear. Never seen a Supra do that.

I thought we had reached an accord Derek. I gave ya that the F-150 and F-350 are better work trucks.
I am going to link a website, I sincerely hope you read it. It will broaden your knowledge of horsepower and torque. http://vettenet.org/torquehp.html Those extra gears allow the imports to stay in their peak torque range longer. A quote from the website: "The Only Thing You Really Need to Know Repeat after me. "It is better to make torque at high rpm than at low rpm, because you can take advantage of *gearing*." :-) Thanks for your time. Bruce " Its that simple. I saw the Top Gear episode that they did the 5th gear stint with. It's impressive. I think you and I are different types of drivers. I don't care so much about straight line acceleration as I do about maintaining speed around the corners. Your Firebird probably would win in a drag race. A 350z would spank you in a road course. A G35 coupe, even though heavier than the 350z its based on, would spank you in a road course. Here is a link with as close a comparison that I could find. Its a 350z vs Mustang GT comparison. The Mustang does win in a straight line. These are the numbers I think are most important to you. Look at the slalom, lateral g's, and top gear rpm. The Nissan blows the Ford out of the water. These are what I like about driving. http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/coupe/112... Anyway, hope you read these. |

Just a point Derek,
I am guessing, but from what I see from around where I live, 65% or more don't use their pickup for work. They use their pickup for the occasional trip to Home Depot. Most people aren't going to care about the frame or bolts or any of that. The things that are important to people that use a pickup for actual work aren't important to the majority of pickup owners. The Toyota makes sense as a good business decision when factoring this in. They are going after the largest section of pickup owners, the very light use weekend warrior. |
Yeah. True. Sorry for being an a**hole. You backed up a good case with this arguement. =] |

I have a Ford Focus wagon and an Acura TL. Family has taken over. lol. The Acura is pretty sporting but comfortable for long trips. We regularly drive from Michigan to the Florida Keys in it. The Focus is our daily driver though, plus, we needed a car that could handle the puppy. He is 125lbs now.
In the past though, I have had a Camaro which I loved. I was more into drag racing at the time. I had a Jetta VR6 that I lowered and braced up, that thing handled like it was on rails. I also had an Acura TSX when the family was getting started, still sporty, but able to handle the kids. After the Camaro, I really took a liking to cars that would handle the mountain roads and country twisties better, found a lot of joy in going fast around the corners. Any others besides the Firebird? |

My first car was a 1967 Mercury Monterey with a 410 V8, very nice car, safe too. I honestly wish I had kept it. My next car was a 1975 Plymouth Duster with a 318 V8, sweet ride until 1980 when I bought a Dodge St. Regis, another sweet ride and I loved it. After I had the Dodge, I then owned a 1988 Chevy Cavalier, not much but it was alright, I then took a liking to many GM vehicles with 3.8L engines, because of their reliability...
I then started buying a variety of cars, from Volvos, to Toyotas to Dodges, I had alot of cars. Now own, Saab 9-3 Aero, well the Saab is technically my wife's car, and we have an Isuzu Trooper and also, got a Chevy Colorado, nice truck, never let me down. |
My friend got his first car not too long ago, a 93 civic hatchback, no rust, completely stock, runs fine, auto..100 bucks. cant go wrong. His dad has an acura legend, he loves it. 2.7L V6, its pretty quick, and really roomy for a 2 door. |

C'mon, Ford and Chrysler have been circling the drain for years. You should have prepared better for this. Best of luck. |

American cars used to be good value for money or budget cars. if you wanted a proper car that would be reliable and not rot out within a few years you would buy a foriegn built car. its like anything in life you get what you pay for. There is a huge difference in quality when compared to either german or japanese built cars.

WOW..talk about being harsh and stubborn. I am in LOVE with my Chevy Silverado. But after driving a 2007 Tundra I have to admit that it is an AWESOME car. Japanese or not! 4x4 Trucks For Sale |

Sorry guys, but calling people names only make all of you appear less intelligent. And yet, we're supposed to believe you know about trucks!
Chevy, Ford, and Dodge has had the most recalls in history. Toyota has a great service history. Maybe if you all could read, you'd know that, but then again, duh? I just traded in my 2002 Mustang GT, Flowmasters 40 series,KN cold air intake, SCFlash PowerTuned. The car was giving me problems at only 48000mi! American cars suck not like the great SuperCars from my years 1966-1969...sorry guys, grow up! |
|
Blow me you homo. A 2002 Mustang that you beat in the ground is giving you trouble?? What a moron. Drive your new little sissy Toytoa into a wall sellout.. |
|
I blew the doors off a brand new honda accord with my 1995 Dodge Dakota 4x4 5.2L 318. Lets look more closely. Accord: 268-hp, 3.5-Liter, 24-Valve, SOHC i-VTEC® V-6 Engine with VCM® Dakota 230-hp, 300tq, 5.2l I guess the Accord should have won since it weighs half of my 4x4 truck and has 38 more hp. Maybe you can tell me why I beat it by a whole car length from the line? (stock) |

About Motor Trend,
I don't know what it takes to qualify to even be tested but what happened in 2007 and 2008? "2008 Contenders" Chevrolet Silverado HD GMC Sierra HD Ford F-250/350/450 Toyota Tundra Where are the dodges? where are the Half tons? How can the Tundra half ton win against 5 trucks that have much more brute force than any toyota? I really think Motor TREND is just a marketing scheme. Whoever PAYS the most wins. I read their article and they bragged and bragged about the Silverado HD. I guess Toyota sniped the last bid. The Ram 3500 won the Truck of the Year award for 2008 WHERE ARE THEY MOTOR TREND? I will be REALLY shocked if they don't test the 2009 Dodge Ram. By the looks it will be a force to be reckoned with. They are also coming out with a cummins in their half tons in 2010 |
