I have a 2000 Ford Taurus problem with low idle when idling. I've replaced the oxygen sensors, idle control valve, idle position sensor, mass air flow sensor, EGR valve, fuel filter, all spark plugs, and air filter. I replace the air intake manifold gaskets and checked for all air leaks as well.
The engine runs fine when first start up, but after the car is warmed up it start idle low and sometimes the engine will shut off. The check engine light is on with code PO171 and PO174 (engine running too lean on both banks).

If anyone experiences this problem, please let me know. Thanks for your help.

kid had same problem with the 2000....it was a leaky pcv hose. but it started doing it again.only this time when its hot,its starts missing(feels like)....now when I start it cold it idles low rpm ,then after a few minutes driving it jumps up and runs fast idle!.....all that came up on code before was EGR flow issue?

miss was coming from plug wires.....probably original from the looks. still has fast idle at start, then go into drive, and it wants to keep running away at 40 without a slowdown......???

Mark; after replacing all those parts and problem wasn't fixed, what was causing your bad idling?

Judging by the sort of negative remarks which would obviously not be a normal comment associated with a financial article, I can only assume that this Ford forum is instigated by those with a financial interest in downgrading Ford. There is no vehicle brand in the marketplace which is completely free of any and all mechanical and electrical problems, and this type of discussion would normally be found in searches for specific problems.

I've had two different Ford Taurus and have had the same idling problems with both. Not downgrading. Just stating the facts.
