Anyone had a problem with wipers operating by themselves? This is random and occasional and is usually only one swipe. What did you do to fix this???

I have the same problem with a 1999 model. If you find out, please post the answer.

Same thing on my daughters 99 taurus, thinking the wiper is just wishing for something random to do if it hasn't rained for awhile...a strange explanation for fun, at least until we know what it really causes it!

Same problem on a 99. Car had previous problem of bad wiring. There is a cable runing inside the drivers side fender subject to corosion from water splashing on it. Could these problems be related?

same on my 99. I've heard through other forum posts that it's the multi-function switch (wiper/signal/etc.)

yes it is a problem with the switch. i was a auto electric mech for 20 years, it is the switch. there was a recall for awhile but its over. you can either take your chances at a recycle yard, or if you plan on holding on to the car, order a new one from the dealership. the new ones have been modified. good luck.......
