Ford Taurus locked trunk

We just bought a 1993 Ford Taurus for our granddaughter and can't get the trunk open inside the car on the floor. It appears that if you push the "lock" button it won't open without a key. The previous owner can't find the key and insists you don't need one. Any ideas?

I have a 90 Taurus with the same situation. Bought it from a guy who didn't have the key and the trunk button inside the car is locked. There is no way around it, you'll have to take it somewhere and have them make you a key. That's what I'm gonna have to do

Where is this latch or whatever to open the car on the inside?

If you take apart the remote release by the driver's seat, you can make it release/open the trunk. It is connected to a wire that mechanically opens the trunk. Once you take out the lock, you can have a locksmith make a new key for you and also tell you what is the key code.
I added the trunk release feature to my '90 L and ran it inside the glove box. I did own a '95 LX wagon and kept on opening the tailgate and fuel door release with the cuff of my pant leg on the remote releases. Hope this helps you.
