Hi, I have FT 1997 and had the same problem for a few weeks. It can be easily fixed by applying cleaner on the door sensor. Apparantely, the senosr on one of the door is dirty. I hope that will help you. Please let me know, if that does not work. I can ask my mechanic what he had used to clean the sensor on my car door.

I have a 99 Taurus and I notice the headlights flicker when I let up on the gas sometimes. Also, the interior overhead light stays on constantly, so I've shut it off completely. The front passenger and rear driver power door locks do not work, either. I thought maybe the interior light staying on and the door locks not working was related, but I haven't been able to find the sensors on the door frames to see if the doors aren't closing snug enough, even though the door ajar light does not stay on. Is it possible for only two of the four power locks to go? And what about the interior light? Could it be simply a fuse?

Did anyone ever find the solution to the 99 taurus strobe light problem? We have replaced the alternator and bought a new battery. Still have the problem and it is very irritating!!
I don't even have anything running to draw power!!!

I have a 96' ford taurus and I seem to be having some problems similar to other people. My day time running lights dont work and the car is now shutting off while Im driving. My alternator is good however my battery is dead now. I noticed that right before the car shuts off there is a beeping and I lose all electrical power. Anyone out there with an answer?
Check the speed sensor. I was doing 70 on the interstate and the car would just die. I replaced the speed sensor and all has been ok since. With this problem anyway.

try this out...The door ajar light stays on unless it cools off. has to do with heat expanding the parts cold contracting. the ac works fine when the fan comes on...if it does. the heater now blows cool air in idol and sometimes warms up at hi idol.....if the fan works, don't forget that. Seen something about the damper door on the heater that may need service or replacement. The driver side lock/unlock switch hardly ever works....once the wipers came on while going down the hwy. There is a shimmy in the front...I paid 2k for this car for an extra car....want to buy it?

Do any of you folks know if you have the "heated windshield" on your cars that the battery keeps dieing on? There is a relay switch underneath in the drivers side wheel well that connects from the starter and alternator. If that relay goes bad, it will continue to draw power until the battery goes....had this happen on an 88 wagon. Replaced the relay, and things were good again.

Did you ever get a response? My 98 Taurus just started doing somehting similar. The headlights won't turn on - only the parking lights. The parking lights won't turn off unless the battery is disconnected.

there is a gem mod behind your fuse box and it is the main reason for all the electrical problems with the taurus

where is the starter located????
If you put your car up on ramps, you need to use an 8mm socket wrench and one other size I cant remember? to take the screws out of the plastic shield covering the radiator. If you look up, it's right there. If you dont know what it lookd like or how to change it, I recommend buying a Haynes manual (about 20 dollars) at an auto part store. Its really quite easy to do. A couple of bolts, etc. Shouldn't take too long. If a girl can do it, you can. Beats my heater core problem with my 99 Taurus! Good luck.

I have a 1999 Taurus that I just flushed the radiator so I could repalce my heater core.(heat not working like ford never heard that)It was working better so I started driving it to see if it would really work if I got the engine a little hotter.(I had unhooked the negative battery cable when I didn't need to so I had obviously hooked it back up before I started it.) As soon as I left the garage, my battery light came on and I stalled a mile later. I replaced the battery and the light is still on. I guess it would be the alternator? I have never had a problem with the battery/alternator, but I have done pads/rotors, brake cylinders, need heater core and water pump, ETC. I feel like this is just one more to the list- and I still owe 4,000 on this JUNK. I hope FORD recalls this car. And everything is so much harder to fix on this labor wise. Parts are not made to last.
Does anyone know why this would happen to my battery and alternator just by unhooking the negative cable???????

I have a 2002 Taurus. When it is cold outside the dash lights do not come on, only the turn indicators, when you turn on the head lights. At fisrt, last year, it took a couple of minutes for the lights to come on, now it takes up to 45 minutes. Does anyone know what might be the problem? It is unnerving to be driving at night without dash lights. Help please!

The door ajar light issue is caused by a stuck sensor. I forget exactly where, but I think it's near the hinge. Anyway, you can fix that with WD-40. The ABS light flickering is most likely indicative of low brake fluid. You'll want to top that off and check for leaks.
Which lights don't shut off?

I have a 99 Taurus wagon. The battery light came on today and I notice the past month or so the lights would dim if I turned the heat or a/c on. Last night the headlights were really dim. I put a new battery on the car back in the summer and a new starter. Could this be the alternator?

I have a 1999 Ford Taurus and experienced the same issue with having a rough time starting. I am not sure if the 98 and the 99 have a completely different setup under the hood, but here is how mine is setup. The starter is located near the engine and below the oil filter. After having my battery terminals cleaned, and eventually replacing my battery, I realized that the starter did indeed go. I paid $250.00 dollars for my starter, so expect prices to be around there, give or take. I hope that helps.

I WAS THINKING THIS CAR WAS POSSESSED!- ALSO THE SAME PROBLEM; for everyones info we had our daylight running lights flashing (like a strobe light) for awhile and the new problem is that our headlights won't shut off! A few weeks ago we had our wipers turning on and off intermittently when we hadn't touched them (it's not doing this now). Have also had the door ajar light on when no doors are open and of course the interior light then stays on. HELP! Someone must have an answer....
I also have a 99 Taurus with a similar problem. All of my dash lights flash off and on, my wipers turn on-by themselves even though the wipers are clearly turned off, my clock always resets to 12:00 when this happens. the accelerator pedal surges. It's as if the battery cable is being removed as I'm driving down the road. I then have problems getting it to start from time to time. This car has suddenly became very unreliable, which is the opposite of what it has been for the last 175,000 mi. I have taken the car in twice and to no avail- it never acts up for the mechanic. I too am being told that my battery and alternator are charing as they should. I just had this happen to me again today. anyone else with the same problem? This problem first began about 1 year ago and now happens at least once a month if not more.
