Is this a common problem with the Taurus? I have a 2000 with a 3.0 and it shifts hard in turns. I have read about the VSS but was confused if the shifting hard in turns was a symptom.
Any help is appreciated greatly. my email is corhey88@yahoo.com

I just bought a Taurus with 189K miles on it for crazy cheap. It runs for now. However, unless it is really warm it will stall at stop or start..never seems to idle stable. The transmission does shift well on the highway but when it's hot and at low speed it will shift eratically sometimes with the lowest shift coming in at a bang. What's the deal?

I HAVE 01 TAURUS THAT I BOUGHT 5 1/2 YEARS AGO
AND HAD 195,000 ON IT. RAN GREAT & SHIFTED PERFECT AND I WANTED TO KEEP IT THAT WAY. I CHANGED THE OIL AND TRANS. FLUID AND FILTER. I ALSO PUT 8 OUNCES IOF A PRODUCT CALLED TRANS-X AND DROVE IT FOR ABOUT 100 MILES AND CHANGED IT AGO AND AGAIN PUT 8 MORE OUNCES OF TRANS-X IN IT. I'VE CHANGED THE FLUID EVERY FALL. I NOW HAVE 246,750 MILES
AND STARTS AND RUNS PERFECT EVERYDAY. TODAY I BOUGHT A '95 TAURUS IN NEAR MINT COND. FOR $795.00 AND THE OWNER SAID THE TRANNY SLIPS WHEN THE CAR WARMS UP. I THINK THIS TRANS-X WILL SOLVE THE PROB.
IT COMES IN A BLUE CAN OR JUG AND IS MADE BY K&W.
TRY IT & YOU WON'T DISSAPPOINTED EVEN IF YOU DON'T
BELEIVE IN ADDITIVES.

Generaly speaking you should have/do a filter replacement along with new fluids. Doing the flush is great but the filter is going to be more plugged than ever before afterwards. I think this is recommended every 30,000 miles(none of us do it I know).

I have a 98 Taurus that I got 6 years ago with 80k miles on it. Currently, I have 171k miles on it and the transmission just went out last Friday. Is it even worth replacing the transmission with that kind of mileage on it now? It's been a fantastic car the entire 6 years I've had it (with the exception that it's been lurching terribly for the last year or so), and I'm just wondering if it would even be worth the money to fix simply because I need a vehicle. Or if I'm better off just looking for something else and junking it in the meantime.

Mine was doing the same thing and it ended up being the speedometer cable. I got it replaced and it shifts perfect now.

Used to own a 1998 Taurus SE. Had 115K miles on it. After tranny was rebuilt 2x, it began to exhibit symptoms of surging; such as shifting into second gear w/o touching the accelerator after releasing the brakes from a complete stop. Took it to a few repair shops to see what could be done. No one found any problems, so I ended up junking it. As it turns out, the guy I sold it to said it was, among other problems and issues, the surging was caused by a bad solenoid in the transmission. Had fluid flushed several times before taking it to get looked at. Hope this helps anyone with the same/similar problem.

I have a 2010 Ford Taurus and you have to floor the gas pedal to accelerate sometimes I think the problem is in the powertrain. And now I have problems at a complete stop I step on the gas and get a jerking motion from the car that might be a transmission problem. Right now I am getting close to wanting to buy a new car.

I have a 1995 Taurus that I bought new. It now has 252117 on Original engine and trans and still going strong. I believe it's all in the maintenance schedule. Also the AX4N is the better transmission.
I agree completly with you!! I have a 99 mercury sable and it has an ax4n and its got 379 thousand miles and the tranny is original and has never and I mean never once acted up!!! People who have issues must have the axod or the ax4s! I swear by the ax4n tho!!!!!!!!!! Worth the money.

I have a 2002 Ford Taurus SES, having problems with transmission also. In Nov. 2011 replaced the torque convertor. Took the car to a dealership because transmission light was blinking, they told me I need a new transmission. This is what I do, go to someone who is extremely qualified in working on transmissions, he decides the same thing. I buy a used transmission, he installs it, the car is still not engaging in 4th gear(?). I would appreciate if someone have experienced this problem, and how was it fixed?

I have a 99 ford taurus and i think its dying. First there was orange fluid in the antifreeze. Now it wont hold antifreeze or tranny fluid and when i put water(temporary) in the antifreeze box,it smokes from where the tranny dipstick is at. I also noticed it(tranny dipstick) was sticking out a little bit. one thing i know for sure is that the heat doesnt work. Any suggestions or answers to this problem??
