Before the auto industry collapsed,Chrysler in 1997 had aquired interest in an Italian company called VM Motori. This company makes high tech diesel engines for the European market. Chrysler took one of their Dodge Durangos, took out the 360cu in gas engine and put in a VM Motori diesel. They only did an engine swap, transmission shift point reprogram and higher gears in the diff. The vehicle got 0 to 60 times 1 second less than the gasser version. It also got 25MPG unloaded on the open road. So the 26MPG for trucks mandated by Congress has pretty much been done. The technology is there, has been there and is not being used. So, what's the real story?
