2002 Ranger check engine light came on, then the next day it started flashing and engine seems to be "missing" and have loss of power. What could it be?

1. Spark plugs/wires hosed.
2. Coil burnt.
3. Injector clogged.
4. Valves busted (least likely).

I would start with spark plugs and wires change. While in the store, borrow their OBDII scanner (they give it for free), read the trouble codes and clear them out. Then, after you change plugs and wires, run the engine for a while, go for a short trip with engine warm and read the codes again. If it's clear, you are done. If there is still misfire, come back and we'll go from there. While you changing plugs, check the color of old plugs. If it's whitish, the mixture in that cylinder is lean and that could be injector clogged. Good luck!

I have a 2004 Ford ranger. will barely run at all. Shakes and boggs down when you accelerate. Loud pinging as well. will run after you get it running but still is misfiring. Changed plugs and coil pack.

I'm having the same issue on my 2004 ranger. I've taken it to two different shops and they hav said that it's a burnt exhaust valve. Seems crazy that it would need that much work when it's not that old. Has your issue been fixed yet?

I have a 2002 Ranger that is doing the same thing (loss of power, missing, flashing check engine light). It has been in the Ford garage for a month with a bill of $1270. They changed spark plugs and wires, cleaned injectors, changed belts, flushed fluids, replaced coil pack, etc. Needless to say I am still having the same problem only tonight it totally quit. Can I have please have that tsb?
