I HAVE A 1998 FORD RANGER 4 CYL, 5 SPD WITH SOME KIND OF EXTENDED CAB, KINDA LOOKS LIKE THE SPLASH. LAST YEAR I FORKED OUT ROUGHLY $700 TO REDO MY A/C. IT WAS GREAT FOR ABOUT A MONTH AND THEN WENT TO COMPLETELY HOT. THE GUYS ARE SAYING IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE REPAIRS I PAID FOR. THEY ARE SAYING THERE IS SOME KIND OF SWITCH BEHIND THE DASHBOARD (THAT WILL HAVE TO BE COMPLETELY REMOVED TO GET TO)THAT ISN'T CLOSING OFF THE OUTDOOR AIR. WELL IF THAT IS THE CASE THEN WHY IS THERE SCALDING(SP) HOT AIR BLOWING OUT EVERY VENT IN THE CAB OF MY TRUCK, EVEN WHEN ITS NOT TURNED ON? ONE OF THE MAIN VENTS BLOW RIGHT ON MY FOOT AS I AM DRIVING AND IT BURNS IT GETS SO HOT. TRUCK HAS NO PROBLEMS WITH OVER HEATING, RADIATOR HAS FLUIDS, NO WIRES SEEN ARE BURNED/BROKEN. THE ACUMULATOR FEELS COLD AND YOU CAN SEE CONDENSATION ON IT.I READ SOMETHING THAT SAID I COULD TAKE OUT MY GLOVE COMPARTMENT TO GET TO IT BUT I DID THIS AND THERE IS NOTHING THERE, EVEIDENTLY ITS FURTHER OVER PAST THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT...BEHIND THE DASH BOARD. A/C GUYS ARE GONNA CHARGE ME OUTRAGEOUS AMOUNT BECAUSE OF HAVING TO REMOVE AND REPLACE THAT DASH BOARD. IVE READ THE POSTS HERE BUT STILL NOT HAVING ANY LUCK. ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS? THE WORK I HAD DONE REPLACED THE COMPRESSOR, FAN AND ACUMULATOR (AND OF COURSE FREON). I LOVE OUR TXSUMMERS BUT DANG Y'ALL....

1998 Ford Ranger. Air conditioning blows cold but intermittently blows heat that feels and smells like radiator / antifreeze. Is this the heater core?

I have a '96 ford ranger and my A/C is not blowing cold air. I did change my A/C clutch and my compressor is working but it seems like I am not getting power to the compressor or something like that. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 98 Ford Ranger 3.0 that like alot of the other post always blows out heat in every setting including MAX AC, and always blows through the defrost no matter the setting. I noticed a hard plastic line that is broken and runs somewhere under the washer fluid tank and assuming through the firewall. The AC compressor also runs whenever your using the climate control system no matter the setting. Any suggested trouble shooting tips would be greatly appreciated.

I have a ford Ranger (97?) that is stuck on heat. All other settings still pump out heat. It seems like it could be a problem with the temperature knob because it sound like the heat setting, not just A/C blowing out heat.
Please help, its a friends we borrowed!
. Did you find out how to fix this problem. I have the same problem. Thanks

My 99 ranger 4.0L/ V6 does exactly what you are experiencing. It started just after an intake manifold gasket and new manual clutch change out. I'm searching for vacumm leaks, but have not found the problem. At about 3000RPM the compressor also cycles on/off continuously. I too am looking for a answer. Good luck.

Air Conditioning Question - 2000 Ford Ranger XLT w/4.0L V6 -
At idle and low speed the air conditioner blows normal through dashboard and floor vents, but when speed increases it changes to only blow through the defroster vents. Changes back to dashboard when slows back down. It may need a refrigerant charge as it doesn't seem to blow as cold of air as it should, but it does cool some. The compressor cycles on and off frequently (maybe 3 seconds off and 8 seconds on) in normal AC setting, runs constantly in AC Max setting. I have checked the hoses, lines and connections and they appear to fine as far as I can see. The evaporator inlet and outlet lines do get cool. Any ideas as to what the problem and necessary fix might be.
