My Ride: Q: What was your first car?

“Son, take care of it, and it'll last a long time.”

My first car was a 1940 Ford, but my first pickup truck was a 1968 Ford Ranger F-100 that I still drive to this day. via Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Been sitting on the side watching this thread, finally thought I would answer..... My first car was a 1939 Chev, with a 52 Chev Automatic engine in it. It had 2 Carbs, and vacuum shift. The shifter had been converted to work regularly, or auto power shift mode. If you put it in the power shift mode you DID NOT hold the lever while shifting or it would break your wrist. Great car for it's day, and pretty fast for the time......

1968 Torino GT, 302 Auto.

It was 1977; my dad had a '68 GT Convertible, 302 4-speed that needed a front clip. I was 14 and saw this '68 Torino fastback GT sitting way back in a driveway while riding my bike. It never moved all summer and the guy’s driveway was full. I stopped and asked about the car and was told it would not start; he had put a new battery in it, but still would not start. He told me I could buy it for $100. I looked it over and found that it had some minor body work (Bondo) but was not too noticeable. Had the cool chrome GT wheels and great tires, interior was spotless, had about 38,000 miles. I told him I'd think about it. Went back later that night, told him he could keep his new battery and I'd give him $30 and have it towed out of his driveway that night. He went in the house to find the title. I rode my bike home and got my dad to bring the tow truck and we brought it home. It had a corroded coil wire, where it connected with the coil. Had it running in about 10 minutes.
This is the one that started it all!!

At 16 yo, I bought an 11 year old 1964 and 1/2 Mustang. It had been sitting next to the owners house for a while. One day I knocked on the door and asked him if it was for sale. He asked how much money I had. I said, "125 dollars." He said, "That's how much I'm asking." It ran long enough to claim that a Mustang was my first car. In 04 I bought a 40 year anniversary model.
