ASK THE AUTO DOCTOR: Steering wheel lock-up has many causes

Dear Doctor: After pulling out of my driveway and making two 90-degree turns in my 2003 Ford Navigator, I tried to turn left, but my steering wheel was in the locked position and I ended up in the ditch.

Re: 2004 Monte with static. Ever think if that's the only situation where this occurs, backing out of the garage etc., he could be passing a fluorescent light on his way out of the garage?

Hi Doc, WE have a 2000 Dodge Caravan that has begun to do a weird thing. After putting the van in park and removing the key everything seems fine. But as soon as you put the key back into the ignation and try to turn the key it won't turn. Eventually after several cuss words and turning the key back and forth 15-20 times if finally turns so we can start the van. Any idea what is going on? Thanks

On my 1997 Chevy 1500 i have a problem when starting it up. The tran is auto. It starts fine in park but I cannot move the lever to any other position. Recently i was able to turn the key on, move it to neutral then start it and move to drv or revers. But this is not working now. I happens everytime now.
